Cd Key In Use

Right I have a problem:

Basically a m8 of mine had CS and brought it round my house to show me (pls note he may have uninstalled it at his house first meaning it isnt illegal, no1 cares anyway and i aint sayin he is.. just 2 stop sarcastic people). When he left in completely uninstalled it and then a few days later i bought the HL generations pack. I installed cs. . it didnt ask for the CD key.

This has never been a problem before but it seems valve have included a check in 1.3. I have my own CD and CD key but how can i set it? uninstalling and reinstalling doesnt work. . and i cant b arsed 2 go through my registry unless i absolutely have 2

any1 have a solution?

You uninstalled HL using add/remove programs and then deleted teh remaining directories?

Try it again, if it doesnt work (no need to pacth just try running the game) then you'll have to go in the registry.

the registry is pretty simple for this kind of thing if u stay in the software key....

allthough saying that icant see anything that may work other than something in the valve tree
"installed" is set to 1, possably setting it to 0 would have an affect

yup i uninstalled it with addremove programmes. . .i will try again

Right i uninstalled it and deleted the Counter-Strike stuff in registry. . reinstalled it. . asked for the cd key WAHEY. . . i am almost sure it worked but havent checked

Registry

Run "Regedit" and do a search for "Valve" then go into Counter-Strike or Half life then into settings then in there is a thread called "Key".

There you will prob find ya m8s CD key, open the thread and replace it with your key.

Bobs ya uncle (Well mine is called stu) your not using ya M8's CD key and now using yours. Problem solved
