Casters. Staves. Question.

I will point out that this question stems not from my own lack of understanding but more serves to prove a point.

A briton caster I know in Albion, who shall remain nameless, claims that he lives 3x longer in combat by he uses no staff or weapon of any kind, as people do not recognise him as a caster. He subsequently refuses to use a staff of any kind. I'm interested in peoples' opinions on this rather radical claim, moreso opinions from hibs and mids, as you guys are the ones who this disguise supposedly affects.

Does it work? Or is it just the latest, greatest way to burn mana?

3*= no way !

If yer gonna enter a battle, you will probally win or all get wiped out.......which means death is coming sooner or later!

And As soon as you start nuking u give your identity away !

TBH when i play....I dont look for people carrying staffs....I look for TALL SLIM people, wearing cloth !

If its a F8 situation, I will press till I click elf/ lurikeen, which will render this tactic pointless.

Besides, my Staff has 8% slash resist among enhancements

That's why smart people roll short britons/saracens as casters in Albion. Dress them in vests (forget those obvious epic robes), dyed black, etc. Everyone knows that anyone called Avalonian gets targetted very quickly and dies first most of the time.

The way to live longer is to not be targetted.

the biggest problem imo for albs mages is NONE have caps. so non cap person = mage. v easy to identify.

the best mage for looking non mage like imo is the celt mentalist, or norse runie (dwarf runies can be spotted a mile away)

I believe the yanks to think this true, I was told that the scepter of intellect (Mace looking Staff) is worth around 2p or something, purely because it makes a caster look less than a caster.

if u dress in an ugly cap (midgard style) and wears no staff,, sure i'll give it a try :p

a) avalonian tag over your head = target practice
b) wave your glowing hands = target practice
c) wear a robe = target practice

thats what i think, so i use my staff

i actually managed to use ALL pow, including a BP item and MCL in 3 seperate fights today.
- heck I even had to resort to the 36g-a-piece DD-charges on my staff cuz all pow was out.

Hehe, yeah we have tired this a few times.
Nice little luri champion with a staff worked quite well. It could be even better if that luri turned into an 8ft Moose ;)

I think theres something in the not carrying a staff thing, anything that stops you looking like a mage is bound to help, but I sure as hell wouldnt leave mine behind.

Nova have you ever heard about hooded cloaks? :p

As for mage withou staff i once saw him, lol honestly i first thought he was an infi, then i reallised that he has no weapons and clicked on him. Was shocked when saw he is a sorc.
So i personnaly think its a good way of NOT being 1st target in combat. Especially good for any briton/saracen sorc.
Would be nice if our avalonian pallys and arms will start wearing robes. They get attacked then BAH its a TANK! :)

If you don't have a weapon, you can't go into combat mode and block all the bugged bolts!

Very much so.
If you want to avoid the blasting FURY of my nukes, I suggest you up your body resists.

edit:
when im OOP, I use a heat-based DD-charge - u prolly already maxed that :)

I am sure a few people have done that to me being an elf champ and got a nasty surprise when the 'Elf' they have targetted starts to whack them with a sledgehammer ;)

My advise to casters:

Don't use epic, (the rope which come with it).
Don't use staves.
Don't be an avalonian.

:)

Has anyone noticed the nice shining light at the end of certain staffs. If you see a faerieparade coming your way, search those lights and destroy them. They are VERY easy to find.

The caster we are talking about is a good mate of mine.
And he loves not being targeted right away. I mean, casters die rather fast anyway, so why not try to prolong your life.
Once you start casting, you give yourself away, but till then....
2p for that mace staff is a bit silly, but people try desperate things when you are the weakest class in all 3 realms.
For most things, he does not run out mana, unless the battle takes a long while.
Not sure what hooded cloak he uses, forgot to ask, will try the same with my caster :p Sadly I rolled it a long time ago, when I had no clue about how races made a difference... that is why I have a Briton as armsman.. would have prefered a Highlander with hindsight.

Must have been a pretty stupid infiltrator :p Nice show though. Tried it once with Glottis, dressed in a black robe (had it from the memorial service). Mind you, some uber-buffed assasin ganked me before I could even put back on my breastplate. Should have done it while buffed also :p
