Hey all,
Been contemplating posting this here for a while and finally thought it'd be a good idea to finally do it. Alright, currently I'm a college student, doing a BTEC in System Support and Network Administration (Last year here, before uni) and I intend to go to University to do a Computer Science degree.
Now, if that doesn't go down to plan; I need help with a career which I want to start... The career I wish to participate in is.. *Drumroll* Database Administration.
Now, what paths would I have to follow in order to do this as a job? (Certification/Knowledge wise)
Only experience in this so far is 2ish years in a Open Source enviroment as a databaser (MySQL) - So I know some SQL, but not sure how much I'm meant to know to get started properly.
So far I know that I need to familiarise myself in these places (which I'm intending to do very soon):
Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005
Oracle 9/10g
T-SQL
Sybase
Other than that, I've really got no idea. I've looked through job requriements, but thought asking here too may be a good idea.
Cheers,
Over.
EDIT: If I don't get into database administration, I'll use the qualifications I gain from College/Uni and go into Network Administration, but I'd rater be a DBA. (Yes, I'm mad)
