I've just taken my car in to investigate the knocking noise I noticed from the back a while ago which they've traced to a wheel bearing, but whilst they were back there they seem to have found that my rear dampers are shot to hell as well, so they're gonna need replaced. Now I was half thinking of replacing the suspension soon anyway so all thats done is bring it forward, so I've asked them to get me a price on some upgraded gas dampers, now my question is this, is it worth sticking with the standard springs? I actively don't want to lower my car as I've heard it makes them rougher to drive and I like being able to get over speed bumps at more than walking pace, but I do want to make it go round corners as quickly as possible.

Any thoughts?

Depends on the mileage. The springs should be ok, but they do sag with age. Personally, if they look ok I'd just leave them, there are better things to spend your money on, like new bushings for the suspension. Cheap to do, but will have marvellous results on handling - you'll certainly be nippier around the beds with new bushes :) Just don't drive so fast you can't stop in time!

Whats wrong with the shocks? Leaking? Bottoming out?
