At first I thought "nooooo, they can't possibly apply a whole new tax regime to existing cars" and then I went to look at a nearly new 130i at BMW and the salesman reassured me that the new shocking and ass raping car tax bands for 2009 and 2010 were for new cars only, I thought "that fuck for that!"

Well he was wrong.

'Secret' tax shock for car owners - Auto Trader UK - News and Reviews Hub

Looks like it'll be a diesel for me, and if the cities get their way (and I hear Glasgow wants to introduce some CO2 thingy) a petrol will be even higher to run.

Bend over, take your pants off and enjoy that article.

I'd like to complain, seeing as I drive a Type-R - but it's my own fucking hypocritical fault for driving a polluting vehicle...

...so I'm keeping schtum. :(

What I will say is that I wish the government wouldn't dress this up as "environmentally" motivated...

Mine's staying the same because I drive the same shite mobile as all the chavvy hair dressers round my parts (sans pink fluffy bits tho).

Go go Ford Ka bubble mobile...

re: local elections Throd

My councillor used to be Tory. Now he's English Nationalist. I thought it sounded like a racist organisation but the leaflet about how our parlament is packed with Scots who are all publicly committed to the interests of Scotland first, and the Scottish parliament which can vote to spend British money (read English) in the interests of Scotland, had me intrigued.

I might waste my vote on them :)

P.S. I love Scotland but our political system is seriously fucked-up now.

P.P.S. Don't even get me started on the Welsh assembly and their made-up-druid pretensions.

Hmm - how do you work out your emissions? I even went to the Road tax government site - it has a calculator but my cars not on it (not my model i mean) - how would they know in practice?

And can you appeal it?

I was reading up on those guys the other day, they do make some very good points, not only about the parliament, but also in reducing the democratic defecit, for example they want all publicy appointed offices to be elected.

At the moment it only looks like I have the Conservatives here to vote for, so fingers crossed they come my way.

The thing with the little partys is they have great ideas and are good for making a point, but they arnt going to get in, and so end up giving the election to the commies on a plate.

Hence I must vote Tory.

I'll be voting Lib Dem here, because the Tories are quite weak around here. The more they lose, the more chance of a vote of no-confidence. Perhaps then we can go back to having a "democratically elected" government instead of passed on Crown. We already have one monarchy, we don't need another, sod off Brown.

I'm in the same band - not entirely by choice as I need a massive people carrier to transport the multitudinous spawn of my fecund loins :p

I should get a discount since if you divide the CO2 emissions by the number on board its probably super effecient!

Summary: We're not saying you can't drive that car, we want you to drive whatever car you like but we have to protect the environment.

Whoever came up with that logic is a genius and a bastard. Genius because plebs bought into the "they're doing good" bullshit and a bastard because by capturing the plebs and controlling them, the rest of us get screwed over... gg wp

Personally I'm wondering how a car with a 3 litre engine doing 5000 miles a year 'pollutes' more than a 1.5 litre engine doing 20,000 miles a year.

Don't we already have that ? Fuel tax ?

Yes we do.

I say well done to Labour for this. Without a doubt piling more expense on the British motorist will definitely stop China and India polluting as much.

All this money we have to pay must be working because the earth is cooler now, so I am glad it costs me an absolute fucking fortune to drive my car sometimes.

I am also glad that since they changed the tax for diesels that apparently all of a sudden diesel costs more to produce (although it didn't seem to cost THIS much more to produce before Labour got in), I am so glad they seem to push for us to get diesels which on a whole cost just as much to run now the fuel for them is so much dearer than petrol.

Bring on the fuel strikes again, we will be on £2 a litre before we know it.

I thought the truck convoy causing chaos through central London the other day was well done. Need more protesting that has an effect rather than everyone just having a general moan and doing nothing about it.

Spot on.

The truckers and farmers need to know that the majority of the general public will back them.

A lad who goes poker is a truck driver and I asked him if the government gave them back handers to keep them quiet (sure I remember something was offered after the last strikes then when they spoke of striking again Labour threatened to withdraw their "insentive") and he said they get fuck all help, iirc he said to tax a truck for a year is about £1400.

It's £250 per week on average Raven, I can't find the source now, but it was in a few paper articles covering the truck convoy through London the other day.

It'll be extended though, this government is determined to cause as much damage as possible before they get booted out.

...and on that day I shall dance naked in the streets of Raith and drink an old man's piss because I'll be so happy to see them go.
