For the past 2 years i have been with Priviledge insuarance, they gave the best deals overall. Usually for me it was anything like £500-600, and when i was 24-25years old.

Now into the third year with them the renewal is coming up - And they have slammed me hard. They're asking for £1000 now.

I went to Direct-Line, who i used prior to Priviledge, i swapped to them because they only gave good deals to new customers if i recalled. Anyway i check and they want £800.

What the fucks going on?? I haven't made a claim and built up like 4 years No-Claims, and yet i am being bitchslapped here. I will be checking a couple of other websites but what this doesn't make any sense :/

insurance premiums go up if there has been a deluge of claims for really everything. they get us to pay for their losses on the claims that they have had to pay out.

tried some of the comparison websites?

You are paying for other people's claims, and the greed of the insurance companies.

Personal injury claims are hitting the insurance companies hard, with every fucker enticed by solicitors to claim injury even when there is none.

The cheapest vs best cover I could find are Churchill or Direct Line, currently with Churchill but looking to switch to direct line when its up for renewal.

Don't bother with the comparison web sites, found they are terrible.

Yep the comparison sites suck, all those things are for is advertising false prices and making the sites owners multi-millionaires at our expense. Think about it, the money has to come from somewhere and we all end up paying for those referal fees with higher annual premiums.

Suppose i have things going against me, since the car is a Ford Focus Ghia 2lt manufacturered in 1998. Petrol too.

I was always saying "man, gonna be awesome next year since i'll be over 25. Suck on that you boyracers!"

...Sigh....

Slight sidenote: If i decide to sell my car, anyone know much about that "we buy any car" company? Their adverts are so funky they draw me in....

Never use a comparison site, you'll always get a better deal on the phone. Unfortunately the rises you're seeing aren't a one-off; ironically, one of the biggest things causing premiums to rise is the increasing number of claims involving uninsured drivers (now reckoned to be 1 in 20 in the UK), which is in turn caused by the recession and...rising insurance prices.

We buy any car will simply give you the scrap value of your car. You'll get a much better deal if you sell it privately or even part exchange.

Try Adrian Flux. Very good rates for young/youngish male drivers. £300 cheaper than anyone else for me, much the same story with other people I know.

I've been with A-Plan for a few years. Remember Gray, cheap insurance is cheap for a reason. Hopefully you won't be unlucky enough to ever have to claim.

I've chopped and changed between Admiral and Elephant (which are part of the same company) for the past several years as they have generally been the cheapest for me - they always try to shaft me come renewal time, sometimes by several hundred pounds, but I just phone them up, haggle and I usually get it cheaper than the previous year or switch to Admiral / Elephant as one will always out-quote the other.

Paying about £380 fully comp for a Z4 3.0si at age 29 with 6 years no claims but some quotes were several thousands pounds.

That's a pretty damn good quote. Cheapest I got on my Tiv was about £900, mind you I live near Manchester.

Sounds unusual, I've always used Privilege because they're great for big no-claims discount, but it does seem they're getting a tad pricey recently. I checked out the Admiral multi-car deal and can get both cars for me and my partner for under £450 (sometimes being an old fart pays dividends), so they seem competitive there, worth giving them a try.

Otherwise, Wazz's suggestion of Adrian Flux, they offer good deals on most of the unusual insurances, I used them last trying to insure my old house when I was trying to sell it, most insurance companies don't cover if the house is unoccupied for more than 3 months, but they gave me a good deal.

I laughed at Adrian Flux, they wanted £1400 to insure a 10 year old polo...

That was an emailed quote from their website. Not going to bother phoning them if that's the sort of figure they come up with.

Thank you for requesting an insurance quotation from Adrian Flux Insurance, the UK's top specialist motor broker. From the details provided we can provisionally offer a price of £1225.

Yeah not far off ;)

I have had a look today, and noticed that some of the prices are now coming in at £600-700. I chopped and changed a few things, but if i recall the noticable difference came with the Protected-NoClaims.

Without it, most quotes came in at £600-700, but then when i added it, the price ended up shooting up to £900-1000.

Still have a month to look things over though, but i think the main ones which gave better prices where Tesco Aviva and Elephant.

Fuck me, how much were you paying in the first place?

I've been using a broker for the last 3 years, a workmate spammed them on an internal forum as they gave money to his local football team, I tried them and they've always been able to get a better deal than any comparison site.

I'm still being stung, £1400 for a 55 reg 320Cd in Manchester, 25 with 3yrs no claims

Well with 3 points (SP30) Adrian Flux insure me for the year for around £250. I'm 26.

If you're getting much higher quotes than that, you must be a spaz that crashes into things all the time. Or live with pikeys. :D

One thing i am wondering finally, the question which pops up alot is car security.

Trackers, Alarms and Immobilisers mostly.

How do i know if the car has these? Im 99% sure it doesn't have any tracker on it, and it sure doesn't have an alarm.

The immobiliser - Is that related to the car keyfob when you're turning the ignition?

Anyway i can find out names, and if they come as factory installed?

Ah haa, last week or what not i filled in details for the IAM insurance Surety, forgot all about them as they didn't get back to me about it.

But they just phoned through now and said since i was an IAM member that my insurance would be guaranteed to be cheaper with them than anyone else. Which it was.

Cheapest i found upto then was Aviva which was £800ish (+2months free, so £670ish), but the IAM one got me in at £644. Still high, but i think its best being with these considering i am already a member with them!
