Once you've done that, make the update.dat file read only until you know there is a GOA patch due and it will time out on trying to connect to the US servers if you can't get direct to the EU ones.
Also, keep a copy of the update.dat file in a folder somewhere else and then if it buggers up again, copy and paste it into your Cam directory.
