Okay its to do with your actuall gfx settings in windows.

Your adapter should be set to optimal refresh rate, it will then use the optimal safest refresh rate that your monitor and gfx card can handle.

Maybe your monitor just cant handle opengl at that resolution, just play it in 1024*768 the difference is minute, i suggest leaving your settingfs on optimal though.

Have you got monitor drivers?

lots of ppl have problems with tthat half-life resolution (1280 * 960) as its not one of the "standard" ones, the ones most games use is 1280 * 1024 and that seems to run fine, so, as C3tan said, run it at 1024 *768 or, if you can, the one inbetween, hope this is of some help.

nah

Set monitor on optimal my arse. When i just wake up and my eyes arent tired I can see my sony Triniton 17" monitor slightly flickering. Its SOOOO ANNOYING so I find setting monitor on optimum a pain in the arse.

Dont ask why. It just does

I suggest you use this: HzTool. Be warned if you dont know the max refresh rates for your monitor, dont use it, you could smeg it up. Oh and its 98/ME only.

Right shit monitors cant handle high refresh rates at high resolutions.

Setting it to optimal really only works well when windows knows what monitor u have (i.e monitor drivers).

YOur monitor will die when u set the refresh too high, but moderm monitors should be able to handle a measly 85hz.

Personally I can get 100Hz at all resolutions up to 1200*1028 (i think thats what it is), and my monitor aint shit hot its just not old.

I dont think my nice new Triniton Sony Monitor which can handle 120Hz and says in the instruction book to "set your monitor manually to the maimum possible refresh rate" is going to blow on 85hz

Well if it is flickering on optimal then something is wrong drivers wise or fault wise.

nah

Proper drivers are installed etc. The flicker is only VEEERRRYY slight. It runs on about 60Hz on optimal coz u can tell from the display options on screen
