Can't Decide

I can't decide between the two servers.
And I can't commit to one until I've stopped being indecisive.

Excalibur:
I played it through the beta (somewhat unsurprisingly) - I'm guessing that most of the people that I met before will still be there.
I joined a for-fun guild in Midgard on Excalibur with some nice people just before it went retail. Would be nice if I could find them again.

Prydwen:
Seems that a bunch of Barrysworld people are on it. This is pretty much the only thing this server has going for it (and that I've already gotten up to level 7 with a Runemaster.)

HELP HELP HELP HELP I CAN'T DECIDE.

Oh yeah the other thing is - since there're only 2 servers, it would make sense to play them both, but in different realms. THE THING IS - the guild and half the people I met on Excalibur were in Midgard. And the people in BW that're playing on Prydwen are playing Midgard too. It's so unfair.

Yknow, if they let you play all the realms on one server, like they did in the beta, that'd solve lots of my problems.
I don't understand the reasoning behind being limited to one realm per server.

Yet another stupid way of GoA/Mythic to 'stop' people from 'cheating'. They really need to screw their heads on straight wrt to these kinds of things.

"Let's make the game quit if it loses input focus". Many people have second machines, and there are apparently cheats out there ANYWAY that do things like give you an overlaid radar in-game.

"Let's not let people play more than one Realm on a server". Well, duh, two machines again (yes and two accounts obviously, but 2 * £20, and 2 * £6/mo is a VERY small amount for many gamers to pay these days).

Well right. I don't understand?
In the beta, when you joined a server, you could always choose which realm to load up no matter whether or not you already had character on another. How is this cheating?
Or wait. Do you mean that it's their way of making more money?

Its realm vs realm, you can't really fight for 2 realms at once :)

Uh. I'm not wanting to play two characters right at the same moment in time. Just have the option of creating characters in different realms on the same server. I don't really see what the problem is.
You can play different realms anyway. It's just that you're forced to use a different server per realm. Which I don't get.
ESPECIALLY since there's only 2 god damn English servers, and 3 realms.

This is a ROLE PLAYING game, you're supposed to be dedicated to the realm of your choice, not spending half your time winning relics for one, and the rest getting em back for another :)

Whether or not this is a true "role-playing" game is very debatable. After all, there are specific servers in the US version of this game for so-called role-playing. Which would mean that the game is, by default, not role-playing.
Before role-playing can really happen there must be immersion. Before immersion can really happen there must be detail, in terms of both environment and character. This game doesn't quite achieve that, I think. And nor do most (if not all.)

And also.
It's a game. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. There are 3 realms in this game. Surely, to get the most out of it, you should experience all 3. Dedicating yourself to one realm would be missing out on maybe two thirds of the entire game. If this was their (them being 'the makers of the game' in general) intention, then it follows that the price represents one third of the game. Which means that they think their game is ACTUALLY worth £60 to buy, and £18 subscription a month or whatever it is. That's kinda a lot.

So anyway.

(DOESNT MATTER IF ITS GOING OFF TOPIC BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL TOPIC SUCKED.)

you can use one realm per server, otherwise, imagine this :

You have a level 40 Albion char, and you hear that the middies are gonna hit one of your keeps, but you dont know which, what do u do ?

You logout, swap to a 15 middie, find out the details, quit, login to arms & arrange a suprise for the middies.

Not the ideal situation. Sort of like playing T in cs, swapping to CT to see where the CTs are camping, then rejoining the Ts.

There are currently 7 server. Yes, only 2 are Eng speaking, but I spent the beta on Avalon with the Germans with very few probs.
Theres nothing stopping you playing the other realms on the other servers.
Ill be playing mid on excal , to go with alb/pryd as my main, and a 3rd server for hib as and when I can be arsed

However, when asked for specific RP servers, GOA stated that all the servers will be treated as RP, with inappropriately named characters being removed, and grief players being clamped down on.

Of course this doesn't mean everyon e has to go around speaking like a medieaval peasant, but then they don't do that on the US RP servers either.

And as for the realms point, fg summed up exactly what I was trying to say, only in a way that most people can actually understand :)

Hrm. The only thing that's stopping me is that the foreign servers are foreign, which I'm guessing means that all the in-game dialogue and stuff is in a different language. If I get a quest that I haven't already done on an English server, I won't know what I'm supposed to do or anything until I go through the hassle of checking up on a website or something. Right?

I hadn't thought of that realm switching thing. JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT THERE ARE MEAN PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT WOULD DO STUFF LIKE THAT. Heh.
Hrm.
Ohwell.

You guys should have at least three servers, so you can have a set of characters on each. That way you'll find out what your favourites are, and have a chance to play with the classes you think you might like the most.

Also, the RP servers are very VERY strict role-play (no out of game / out of character chat), but the other servers have role-play stuff in them too. They also implement the naming rules very well - names like Coital (a level 7 wizard I found) was soon changed.
