Cant connect to any games no more

ive been playing cs for a while and everything went good, but today i tried playing and it stays on the " connected to server" till the times runs out. I tried all day different servers and it does the same, any suggestions anyone?

Have u been having other internet problems today? Its probably just your ISP. If it happens again try typing /retry and see if it connects on second attempt. Also have u been fiddling with any settings in your config?

nah my internet works fine, and didnt touch my confg, i reinstalled counter strike twice and it still does the same thing, today though i was able to join a game but it frozen up cuz of lag( i have a cable connection, usually doesnt lag) and it closed. That was the only sign of hope i got.

No sounds like your connection. Try uninstalling HL, and dleteing the CS directory then reinstalling both.

try this:

connect through the console (to get the console on the bought version type):

-console in the shortcut before loading it.

Then to connect get an IP address of a good server and type:

connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx (numbers) (then press return)

see what happens because I may be having a similar problem.

it should say:

connection accepted by xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx

build server 1600
something here
something here

. . .

BUT it takes ages and then just stops. Press up to get the line to connect and press return again. This time it will load correctly. I dont know what causes it but when I connect I have to type it in twice before it works. Dont ask me why

Try it and tell me if it works

where do i write -console? i open the link and press -console or add -console after the name?

copy the shortcut to counter strike and right click on it and press properties: then where it says target (mine is)

C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe

change it to

C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console

and launch the game. U will se a new icon called console. Go into it and try what i said above

i got in this time( been a while since i ever got in a game) but i was really laggy, i never got lag before( ok maybe once) on cs. i dono whats wrong

maybe your ISP is a little poor. I dont see how it can be that bad. I have freeserve hometime and still manage to get a decent game with ping 200

but its been perfect for like the past 9 months, no lag whatsoever, a ping of like 100 , it cant me my isp, my internet is as fast as always, and when i dowload it still a good rate. anyways thanks everyone who tried to help, this is one fucked up problem

You have a cable connection and a ping of 100????? hmmmmmmmm....surely something wong with that unless you're not playing on UK servers....

Cable connection your ping should be sub 50, mine is usually 25-30. Phone cable company now.
