Can a someone in the know fill me in on the cost of moderating a forum 24/7 ?

a forum that i frequent alot has just started to make the forum read-only from 11 at night, to 9.30 in the morning. this forum is run by a popular football club, and the reasons they give is that they have to moderate the forums 24/7 and it was costing too much.

now this football team have many millions of pounds, and i was wondering if the cost of moderation was that much, or whether voluntary moderators were acceptable, and whether there is any law that states that 24/7 moderation is required or else etc.

It belongs to them, they can do whatever they want for whatever reason they like.

While most forums have Super Moderators who are Employees a lot of companys (mainly gaming related) appoint volunteer moderators for certain forums. It costs nothing to have volunteer moderators, the only costs are for the bandwidth and space the forum uses.

Maybe they should make their overpaid players earn their money and moderate the forums that their fans use .

I think it's fair to say that they don't put up with *ANY* bad language or racy topics on that forum - and you can't moderate topics by filter.... Anyway - why would you want to be posting on the LFC forum at 11:30??

hehe cheers for the info - maybe the question was a little open-ended (looking at the $6000.00 answer, im thinking "wtf do i do with that info" ).

quite a few people did post at that time - people coming home from the game via train dont get back till late sometimes. there were quite a few late regulars who would have long discussions and debates about stuff, you know. its nice to browse a forum late when you can't sleep, and post your views to some stuff if you feel like it.

ah well, maybe ill make a suggestion to them, if it hasnt been done already.
