Camera help

Right.

As some people may have noticed in the burglar's thread, i mentioned that my sister had recently been robbed and lost most of her stuff e.g. dvd player, camcorder, jewerlly etc. she also had her camera nicked. So for her bday we've decided to get her a new un.

However, living out in Qatar prevents us from a) finding a good camera and b) that isnt outrageously priced. (we also know absolutley fuck all about any decent camera's and we dont have access to any camera mags)

So, to put it simply. Looking for a compact, film loading (dont want a digital one) camera that has all the usual bells and whistles e.g. flash, zoom etc. up to about £140 and any British websites that sell them as we wont be able to buy it out here.

thanks

I would've suggested a Canon Ixus, the one I've got is an excellent little camera but the new ones on the Jessop's site look a bit Fisher Price

you might consider talking to luap...

but basically don't bother THE bargain your looking for at the moment is;

Fuji Nexia 2000 irc APS film system compact. (sometimes called the Tiara, god knows why)

little clam shell design, 2x optical zoom, all the bells and whistles... metal alloy case... the camera mags all love it....

it normally sells for about £170....

and at the moment it's £70 in the dixons sale.

that other dude's right, Ixii at the moment are fisher price toys...

also consider Olympus Mju-II, Nikon Nuvis, and er some compact little black Nikon that's also possible a Nuvis.

If you want a compact camera to have a decent lifespan (which you'd expect for that kinda money) then go for good optics I'd say. Who cares about (most) of the bells and whistles, you want a damn good lens on thing. Nikon are good at making lenses, I know that much :)

/me nods at granny

what he said.

of course, if you had about £650 you could afford a Leica Minilux. but you can't, so :(

i still say the Nexia is gonna be ur best bet, far better than ixus cameras

£650 for a compact?

Jesus, you could pick up a T90 with a few lenses for that

well. I picked the camera that Stu mentioned. They have to pick it up from some place seeing as jessops dont like to deliver to addresses other than the one on the card
