Camcorders?

Anyone got a clue with these? Last time i looked into buying one was back in the day of memorex tapes! Whats better DvDs, harddrive, memory card ect?

If anyone could explain the in's and outs of the newer generations or point me at a site that can it would be ace. Also anyone know of any nicely priced camcorders at the mo? Looking to spend around £200-250, but i can go over if its a good buy

I don't know too much about them, but, a mini DV camcorder would be great for you I reckon. You can get a good one for £200 and the tapes are really cheap too. Its easy to capture the footage, just connect via a cable to the pc and thats it. Mini-DV ones are also good because say you made a holiday video, and you don't want to store the footage on your PC, you can just keep it on the tape for when you want to use it. Where as a hard-drive one you would probably have to store it on the PC because you might run out of space.

I know optical zoom is better than digital zoom(don't ask me why, thats what my teacher said)

Optical zoom vs. Digital zoom... With optical zoom you keep your megapixels, but with digital zoom, if you've got a 4MP camera, with 2x digital zoom, you effectively only have 1MP. Similar to enlarging a jpg picture or some similar digital format. You'll eventually see the individual pixels. Doesn't look nice.

I got 2 camcorders. Both digital tape based. If I was to buy again, I'd go for hard drive for sure. Before you decide on make / model, decide on what features you need and go from there.
