Bullshit. I've met somewhere in the region of about 70 people I spoke to online first, and never do I call them by their online aliases. It's fucking retarded.

I've thought this before. As soon as you start calling people by their real names they just become strangers who you've never met before. (As opposed to strangers you have met befo... aww, forget it.)

You'd have to keep reminding yourself, "no, that is bigbb, that's Wij, you know them, fs..."

Sadly, the only way round this I could think of is to wear a little badge which says "Hi! I am SomeGuy. My real name is Robin" and then you'd just want to beat each other up for wearing crap badges.

Tricky. I suspect if we ever met it would be a hugely confusing and disappointing affair.

Or it could be great fun. I dunno... :/

strange phenom isn't it? SAS should do a column about it. He's good at posing questions like that.
course, the hai chaps have all met each other iirc, and the barrybeer peeps. we could ask them to expose the madness that is meeting netfriends irl :D

Aye, you'd feel a bit of a prick standing in a bar, and shouting `Eh there Lead Nibbler' at someone walking through the door... Or whatever

True. I wouldn't answer to 'SomeGuy'.

'Summo' on the other hand is a class nickname which I want my friends to call me. They never will.

Right, then. When and where shall we meet?

Its quite funny at the I-Series when they announce things over the public address thingy.

I did try to call everyone their real names at the HAI meet, but soemtimes you slip and call them by their alias. They still answer as if you had addressed them properly.

Heh, I've met several folks in real life that I originally "met" through gaming, and the handle v real name thing is weird.
What's weirder is some people I know "in real life" who don't play games and hate computers call me Reverend Flatus!

Er, close but no cigar. They know I'm into games and use the name Flatus, and they know I was ordained here a couple of yers ago.
Reverend Chris doesn't seem to roll off the tongue so well though.

You can all call me Reverend Itchy in 48 hours.

For $99.95, I can buy an honourary doctorate and special title too.:D

For £45,000 you can become Baron of Porterfield.

For a more reasonable £149 you and your beloved can become Lord and Lady of Redhill.

I'm still not sure you could class "Croydon" as the london area tbh. I mean it's a london borough, but it's in Surrey
