Cafe de mar 98 voted best dance track ever

Cafe Del Mar etc

Cafe Del Mar is without a doubt a class tune, but for its worth there is nothing I can think of that beats Josh Wink and Higher State Of Consciouness (1996 or 1997 IIRC), You would have Pete Tong spinning on the essential collection. That and at the time it was heavenly. Pragha Khan is just old skool rave almost, total wank. Also N-Trance was out not long after with Set You Free which is remixed and out atm. But then you have good tunes like Greece with Three Drives, but for it's time and everlasting quality Cafe Del Mar does at least deserve a mention. Faithless too with Insomnia was a HUGE hit in dance land, god knows why that wasn't at least shortlisted.

Ah sadly those days are gone......but still now we have PPK - Resurection and about a billion other class tunes, shame were getting wank rave remixes :|

I, for one, whole-heartedly agree with Cafe-Del-Mar being voted no1. Infact, there's no other tune I would have preferred to see at the top. And no i'm not a 'crasher kid. That tune revolutionised dance music; the build is gradual and subtle, with a perfect prog-techo groove fused under pefect production, leading up to a sublte breakdown. The chords alwys manage to uplift, without ever sounding cheesy or sickly, and I've never heard a single other moment in music with more impact than when the staccato riff kicks in. I've heard that record hundreds and thousands of times, and have never, ever gotten tired of it. Being voted no1 has had its legacy paid off.

Second up for me comes Saltwater (jesus christ, I agree with bodhi on something???) , followed by Xpander, Offshore, and Tiesto's mix of "The Silence". I'll admit to tunes like Saltwater being personal taste only, though.

Fyi, here was the MixMag Top 10:

1. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar
2. Paul van Dyk - For an Angel (cough *cheese* cough)
3. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy (Awesome tune, total classic, but its hardly dance is it?)
4. Faithless - Insomnia (there you go, Arcl1ght)
5. FSoL - Papua New Guinea (see #3)
6. Sasha - Xpander (yes, yes, yes!)
7. Underworld - Born Slippy (i never understood this, a few chords, inaudible lyrics, then boom boom boom boom for the next 5 minutes, then end...)
8. New Order - Blue Monday (Anyone who has no respect for this has no right to live)
9. Prodigy - Out of Space (Not bad, I preffered their later stuff, myself)
10. Delerium - SIlence (Tiesto mix only please... and its a shame he had rinse and dry the formula for Urban Train, which sucked)

Josh Wink got a mention at 12 or 13, iirc. Its a great tune though.

I think the best prodigy track has to be Charly, just for its comical value.
At the moment I love riva stinger the tall paul remix.

Injected with pioson the 3am mix is amazing and the 3am mix of like this like that by mauro picotto.

Dont think anyone has voted for BT - Flaming June (think thats what its called).
Cafe Del Mar is bloody good tho (and just of note, I hadn't read this thread first, but I picked up the single this morning on the way out the house to play on the way to work, kind of spooky..)

So according to you, the voted best dance track of all time should be something underground that no-one's ever heard of? Jesus, just because a record becomes popular that makes it commercial?

Clearly you have no idea of what commerciality is, and what makes a track commercial. Another post of your bitter angry ways. Yipee!

Clearly you are a complete moron.

Commerciality in this sense is crafting music for the sake of shifting copies instead of providing good music.

If a good track spends a year on the underground, then gets picked up and signed for shitloads by Tongy or the likes, and does well in the charts, it's hardly commercial. At least, not on the maker's behalf.

I agree with Xenon here, that Unfinished Sympathy and Papua New Guinea are in now way dance tracks. Have you tried dancing to the originals? Both fit squarely into "Alternative".

But anyhoo, despite my well known hatred of dance music, one or two songs do stand out as being good. I'm encompassing all forms of dance music here, and will throw in a couple of alternative songs aswell.

They are, in no particular order:-

Delerium - Silence (Tiesto of course)
Orbital - The Box
Orbital - Doctor? (cheese I know :) )
FSOL - We have explosive, Landmass
Fluke - Atom Bomb, Bullet, Absurd
Faithless - Insomnia, Drifting Away, God is a DJ
Maurico Picotto - Komodo
Jayson Torres - Slow Hand
Roni Size - Dirty Beats
DJ Zinc - 6 Million Ways to Die
that new ShyFX one

and pretty much anything done by Prodigy, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers.

only when people piss me off :)

I just think that a track should be judged by it's musical quality, not how large it becomes.

Bodhi, respect :). Some good cuts in that list.

Ahh the good old "he's one awards so he must be good argument".

*Points at the talentless drivel that won awards at the MTV awards*

I can rip and upload a copy, give people private messages to the URL.. if they want to check it out? Worth listening to anyway. If you don't want to, and stick to your guns defending yourselves it proves a lot.

Of course, if I were to upload the mp3 should only be kept for 24hour usage blah blah blah I hold no respoinsibility blah blah. You know the deal. ;)

Just covering my ass, TdC tought me well. :D
