Thinking of creating a Cabalist, im told theyre really good in RvR for their DOT's im not sure what to spec for this or anything, tips on hunting would also be great. Please no Spamming or Crappy messages, im asking for advice not whines! :p

DoTs aren't what they once were, but are still the best aoe effect in a siege.

Levelling cabalists is a funish class to solo, but difficult to get high level groups.

Like all casters they are pretty uber in the early BGs.

As for your spec, 46 matter is more normal, that gives you best aoe dot, but second best focus shield and single target dot, however, those items are more pve than rvr relevant.

be warned, their debuffs and damage sheild are being nerfed in 1.65 :/

As for whether that will make a huge difference to the char, I'd say it does but you'd have to ask one of the long time cabalist players if it will annoy them at all.

People regulary ask me if they should make a sorcerer or a cabalist. I always tell em to make a sorcerer. Why?
Cabalists are very bad nukers (atleast untill the later levels).
They don't have a group ability, so aren't needed in a group ever. (except for focus pulling which is VERY rare in Albion)
Sorcs are always usefull in groups, for crack and mezz, or even nukes (which are better than cabs).

Cabs are usefull in keep defense with aoe decease and dot which can be pretty painfull if you can keep casting it over and over again in a keep defense. Otherwise it's crap. Only other tool as a matter cab is nearsight. But that has been nerfed in 2 ways:
- RvR is only tanks and healers nowadays
- Spreadheal isn't affected by nearsight

Some months ago spirit cabalist got popular. Their pets can do pretty good damage (for pets that is, i see them as a low level tank) and the debuff nuke combo, while not as powerfull as chanters is pretty painfull and a good combination with MoC.

In patch 1.65 there will be some changes:
Focus damage shield can't be used to take on multiple high level monsters.
Debuff is shortened to 8 seconds, which will be more like 4 seconds in RvR with the resists and it will debuff for far less. In effects, debuff is useless.
Baseline nukes get increased in damage above body spec nukes.

In other words, cabs suck.
Wanna do damage as a mage, roll wizard, air theurgist or body sorcerer. Wanna have utility, roll a theurgist or sorcerer any spec. Want to get groups, roll a cleric, merc, minstrel or sorcerer.

Cabbies are fun to play pve but as mentioned tricky to get in groups.

There arent too many cabs in end game RvR to be honest. Ae dots are great in keep situations but in open RvR they are shunnned as obviously using ae dots kills any cc which we all know thats what its all about. Far more cabs are there as cash/drop farmers.

As for spec, matter is still the best , with tools like nearsight , a great focus shield and the dots, although we'll have to see how much of an adjustment body cabs get in their lifetap damage.
