BW Q3 HPW Server

I'm not the sort of person to moan about lpbs kicking the crap out of hpws. You just live with what you got and make the most of it. It's a fact of life and getting all pissy about it is (a) a complete waste of time and (b)creates bad feeling amongst the players.

So it was nice to see a HPW Q3 server set up for modem-challenged persons like myself. A fair (as these things go) playing field.

Trouble is, the times I have popped on there, there seems to be a gaggle of lpb's on the server unaware of it's reason for being.

Now, I've got no probem if the other servers are empty and you want to have a game. But at least, for the love of John Carmack, use the handicap feature. It's not to much to ask is it?

Probably people fooling the initial ping check. They could well be unaware of the reason for the servers existince but unlikely

Yes, it seems that sv_minPing isn't very reliable. Still, it gives me somewhere to go when I feel the need to kick someone

You can see all the BW q3 servers buy using the master = q3master.barrysworld.com port = 27950

The HPW server is at: 194.88.93.40:27964

I was on there last night and although LPBs slip through 90% of the players are HPW and playing against fellow modemers ensures you enjoy your game of quake3

How's about if the message that greeted players as they logged on to the server read "Modem Players Only"

Make it a little more obvious for the folks who don't know what a HPW is.

Hmmm, I think that not all lpbs who come on to this server are ignorant of the rules.

Tonight, I was looking for an empty server to test something out so I entered the HPB server for the first time. I'd only been there for seconds when some anonymous lamer ("unnamed player") came in showing a ping of 66. I sent a message to indicate I wasn't fighting, just testing something. I then was typing a goodbye message when I was hit in the back by a rocket.

I think there are some people who enjoy causing trouble and the only way of stopping them is to exclude them. Is is possible to introduce an automatic "kick" if ping is below, say 120 or whatever? Otherwise, I suspect the server isn't going to be used.

On the sv_minping reliability issue, I understand that Point Release 1.16n is due to be installed on the Q3 servers today.

The existing istallation is quite old now (still using 1.15c from January), so it might be worth checking to see if the new point release offers more reliability.
