no point practicing v modemers if you want to be good....

when i had a modem i never once thought of playing hpb only it was always against as many lpbs as possible and i always managed to win

dammit people get some skill modem is piss to awp and isnt that hard for other stuff
just needs to be stable

It's been there for a while now, it's not currently running admin mod but has limited rate settings.

doesnt seem to be - its just that the server has the maxrate set down to 4000
So anyone with a "digital" connect gets a either a naff ping or spikes from hell - unless they are clever enough to alter their rate value.
90% of the players on there when I tried it earlier didn't even know it was "modem only" (even though it tells you when you connect, fs) and thought it was just another duff server

Was a goodish game last night tho Wilier.

The server was pretty good (only lagged out once). There were some lpbs (4 from 12) but the games were pretty decent.

Better ping than the jolt servers.

Are they thinking of implementing an autokick ?

Some of the lpb's seem to have an IQ less than their ping.

tbh I think this is lame, its just gonna encourage people to continue to believe that its the ping they're on that sets their skill level, when its still down to practise. I'm still nowhere as good on my Cable Modem as I was on my 56k, why? Because I took months off from CS & lost 90% of my skills.

This will also just continue to drive a steak between the LPB & HPB sections of the community. Which also sucks.

So take your vitamins, stay in school, stop bitching about ping & practise.

Agree with you Mystic.

although I do play a lot on hpb only servers, I do also play on mixed.

The "only" good thing about playing on hpb only servers for me is the lack of bitching of "your ping is better than my ping" scenarios.

Everyone is on a level playing field and they cannot use that as an excuse.

Best thing about playing against an lpb is killing them!. On good days I can have a good score but its usually pretty pants - usually because Im trying to complete the objectives/

I'd echo most of that sentiment Lazarus BUT
I still don't think it's a bad thing to have 1
modem only server. I dunno about you but some
evenings I get massive pings (around 400) that I
just can't get round, on a open server with
average pings at 125-150 it's murder.

Under those circumstances will be good to have a
rate limited server to try.

To those who say they used to kick arse on
their modems, I say get back on them now
and see how you get on. Things have moved on !

I still find myself wondering sometimes, why people dont attempt to complete the objectives?? Especially with this new stats thing where you get more points for planting/defusing/rescuing etc. than for kills (correct me if Im wrong)

Its certainly the only way I can get points, cos my aim sucks when Im using my laptop.

ROFL, Ive been "doing up"our house for 8 years now, still not quite finished. But your right, do 2 and 1 will fall in to place m8.

I have got a docking station for my laptop, but thats not really the problem, its the poxy 4mb ATI mobility graphics card that kills me

And yes, Im stuck on the lappy tnite. 2 days off noe though, so maybe tmorra...............................................

Managed to finish (2) last night and (1) was a doddle (a bit late tho)

Managed to get on and played Italy (quite well) and then Nuke (Did a Wilier on that map tho )

I think there was more lpbs than hpbs to tell you the truth.

Mystic - if you are still reading, it may be worthwhile changing the message to read 56K Modem - there are probably the Cable Modemers who think the server is for them

I do think it's a good idea... it does stop the whining about ping / lpb/hpw...
