Buying an electric guitar - need advice!

Greetings.

I've started learning guitar within the last few weeks practising on my old mans acoustic to grasp the basics and just to see if i could get into it (which it seems i have ) and now i'm starting to look at buying my own for when i go back to uni in october.

I'm not really sure where to start looking or what to start looking for. Ideally i want something that'll suit me as a beginner but also that'll last me when i become a bit better.

Budget is probably around or up to £250.

May be a tiny bit more expensive but this is a very good guitar it is the Epiphone Dot, it will last a long time it is a nice guitar to learn on and also spot on for when you learn abit as well.

you shouldnt spend the whole £250 on a guitar, id say get a decent practice amp, like a vox ad15(or 30)vt and then use the rest on a guitar. i imagine you could get an ad15vt and an ibanez rg321/sa120 for that kind of money, and you would have a practice amp with nice sound and a guitar that is built well enough you dont have to it throw away once you get serious, you can just upgrade.
of course, what you want to play should also influence your choices, it would help if you told us what kind of music styles you are most interested in.

Hmm, in Leeds you can get a decent guitar and amp for about 90 quid

Or try argos, they do a amp & guitar Fender set for about 120

Problem is once you learn a bit this type of guitar is quickly obsolete, better to spend abit at first then you have something that will last a while.

Ah but as Vlad is a noob, might as well get the whole whack for £130 quid from Argos(I just chckecked )

He will then have an amp to keep and something to muck around on while he gets used to it.

Whats the point in getting a super hyped up guitar if your gonna get bored and give up after a few months?

i got that, but i thought it wouldnt be that hard to collect £50 extra or find something used

So.. I'd rather spend £400+ on learning lessons/playing/buying new gear, instead of spending £65 on GH1/2 and playing for fun? Likelyhood of me getting a professional career as a guitarist? Zilch. (Bassits, maybe 5% as I play IRL)

Stupid comparison because you got the completely wrong end of the stick you tit

Fiesta is a smaller, cheaper car thats easier to drive.

BMW is more expensive but a lot more satisfying to drive.

Guitar hero may be all fun, but at the end of the day its 4 or 5 coloured buttons and something you tap instead of using strings.

Real guitar is far more gratifying

Oh i believe the degenerates, that this place harbors like Mos Eisley in its prime, are quite capable of connecting the preverbial dots in that sentence

Yamaha are very good value for money for the kind of budget you're on, Vlad...I always found them to be good instruments at any price level, you never seemed to be paying for the name on the headstock (unlike Squier/Epiphone etc) just for the quality of parts and construction. A Yamaha Pacifica is an excellent beginner's guitar, and decent enough quality to not be a bad second instrument (to keep in a different tuning or something) for when you get a more expensive one.

This is the Pacifica 112, I think you can pick these up for about £200ish...a lot of my guitar pupils had these and they were very good.
