Help Buying a used gaming laptop

Hello!
I'm not (anymore, at least) tech savvy at all. My very old laptop just crashed, and I'm now completely computerless other than a small Notebook.

My funds are around the 250-350quid range, and would like a laptop I could potentially game on. I'm not talking high-end stuff; I generally only play games such as FM and WC3, but would like this computer to cater for more demanding games too. Generally, value for money!

I'll use it purely for gaming and essay-writing. Nothing else is required.
I've had a look on used laptops on gumtree and ebay, but not sure they are very reliable.

Some computers I've looked on is Gaming laptop 1 and Gaming laptop 2
However, remember, I dont have a clue, at all, and would be happy to receive any advice or tips.

Just to add, I could also buy a new one, but I have no idea where to turn to. Any reliable, cheap internetstores around?

Most people will probably say get a desktop; however, I'll use it for essaywriting aswell, so a laptop makes sense. I also have a limited budget and no screen at all at the moment.
