Buying a new PC

Im after a new PC. I have a budget of between £800-£900

I was looking at X-treme SLI GS6 from mesh

Thats stupid you may as well have one good card instead of 2 rubbish ones..I would wait for the DX10 cards to get into the main stream like the GF8800.

on the whole, you really cannot beat mesh for value at all. i'd say that's a decent deal.

i'm buying a pc from there today also as it happens.

What Gamah said - you'd be better off one 8800GS or GT than two 7600GS.

Other than that the specs look reasonable, but likewise I get the feeling that if you bought the components seperately and built it yourself you'd probably save a whack.

Saying that, comes with a 19" monitor too...

But could I get that in my price range and if so, where from? I only want to buy from ebay as a last resort as I know a few people who have bought from ebay and have had problems left right and centre. Building my own isnt really an option either as I know fook all about PC building

Agree with the above. As a general rule with SLI, if you're not putting in 2 of the best cards on the market (8800 GTS at the mo), then it's cheaper, and better performing, to spend the money on one better card instead. Not that I'm recommending SLI with 2 8800 GTS, just that you're better off getting one card otherwise.

I've got a specced up 2gb, core 2 due 6400 with an 8800 gfx card, power supply and 250gb drive for under 700 quid from ocuk, although i do have a case already....... not that i have the cash after worked stiffed me this month....

Did I hear right that dual GFX cards only work well with games that support SLI and at the moment thats ... well... not many.

So yeah go with one good card instead of two imo

And build you own rig. That way you make sure you only got quality parts in it.

Those SLi cards are a waste Marc, the also eat alot more electricity. Get mid range 8800 series instead.

I'm personally going to stay away from Mesh in future.

My last pc from them arrived with an incomplete install of Windows XP, and after reinstalling it I started experience lock ups and resets while playing games and had to return it.

They returned it to me "fixed" and yet as soon as I started gaming on it, the same crashes occurred.

They eventually sent me a replacement machine and although it works most of the time, I'm occasionally getting momentary freezing in games including DAOC along with single beep from the PC speaker.

My PC has SLI (2 x 6800GT) and personally think it's been a waste of money.

It's been a while, but when i bought a top of the rance pc form mesh about 5 years ago their customer service and warranty service sucked... They tried to rip me off by not sending me the upgraded components i'd ordered and then tried to argue with me about the processor spec in the machine as they had sent me a much lower spec processor than i'd paid for.. It took me over 2 months to actually get a working machine out of them and by the time i did get one it wasn't top of the range any more......

We bought a new Pc from Mesh for my wife last year, it came unusuable. Windows wasn't installed properly and the "Recovery disk" was nothing of the sort as it didn`t function. In the end I had to run a repair using my own windows CD and trawl the net for drivers for all the hardware as they didn`t include any driver disks whatsoever, there was no system restore setup and customer service was abysmal they didn`t even reply once to our complaints.

I would reccomend staying away unless you know a thing or 5 about PC`s, but tbh if you know as much as you might need if you buy from mesh you may aswlel just build it yourself.

this is the 1 i built myself marc... no probs so far.. you could add a better mobo for 60quid extra for minimal difference

Certainly many games run the same on one card rather than two, and some are a tad faster on one. Plus, if you were going to spend, say £300 on graphics, two £150 cards in SLi will run slower than one £300 card on all games, whilst using more power.

Don't buy anything with fucking Vista on it.

Vista is suprisingely nice imo, just installed it on laptop and I like it.

About SLI: either buy 2 top end cards if you have the money or just buy one top end card. SLI it not worth it if you ain't got the money for it.

SLI/crossfire is the way to go if you have a 24inch+ monitor. Any less and your better off with one good card.
