The problem is not necessarily penalties, it's society, the general attitude, respect and the way in general that the country is bringing up their children.

Compare Canada and America and you can see it quite clearly. Canada has guns (slightly less lax laws than America though), they have strong penalties for crime (not death sentence). Yet in Canada half the country leaves their doors unlocked 24/7, when I was there I couldn't believe they do it but the people I was with all assured me so many people do that. It was also shown on Bowling for Columbine.

In America it's a society of paranoia and scare tactics by the media and everyone else who has power. It's a completely different society and the whole attitude there is very different.

It's the same in England, we are no longer than country with honour and respect from 50+ years ago, we are now descending into a pit of bad attitudes and lack of respect.

To fix crime you need substantial correction facilities, good sentences plus reliable sentencing and judgements. A well stocked police force that are able to prevent crimes just as much as they should be able to react to it. Then finally you need a good society, a moral society where there is respect for your fellow human beings. The final thing is just a lack of poverty and difficult circumstances for people, which is very hard but hey if you can do the rest...

Oh well.

To fix social disorder you basically need to free people from the fear of getting in trouble for giving some little shit a slap.

I've had a couple of occasions where kids around here having given me grief. One was when washing my last car, some kid wanted a drive in it. He was only about 10 so I politely (honestly) told him no. After a minute of pleading and me saying no, he walked off with his mate and I heard him muttering 'fucking ****..twat....' etc. I walked into the road and gave him my best 'headmaster bollocking' voice, which I don't think he'd ever seen before. No trouble off him ever again.

Second time was a group of teenage lads one of whom called me a pussy. When I confronted them, all 7-8 of them, not one had the balls to admit who it was. As soon as my back was turned, the name calling started again, until I walked back and demanded to know who it was....total silence.

Most of these kids are just out of control. Give them a swift kick up the arse, and they come back into line.

What we need is for people to be able to give that kick up the arse, and get a pat on the back from our institutions. What we have is institutions that would compensate the kids, lock the normal people up, and demand more money from the government to deal with 'this problem' - money that comes from our pockets.

Powers for Teachers to search kids for weapons - interesting bit is the teacher 'may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances' which is a very usefull phrase - they cant strip search you tho luckily...

And lets see how many kiddy fiddling teacher cases arise from this.....

I reckon the lack of discipline is starting early, by the time they get to their teens they think they're untouchable. Humph buggers.
