might get a bit repetitive on the mincemeat for you, but i really love this

500g mince meat (mince pork is best) or you could probably also use little cubes (or meat pizza topping)
300g rice
big jar of pan sauce
red beans in chili sauce
some pineapple/onion/corn (any or all, depending on what you have laying around or what is included in the pan sauce)
tabasco (i have loads of bottles of it so always lots of it in there)
boil the rice, fry the mincemeat, put them all together on a huge pan, nice 'hot' meal.

dunno about uk prices but its cheap to make over here.

mexican curry (i don't know if it's a real thing but i make it a lot)

lightly fry a roughly cut large onion in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil.
add a teaspoon of tumeric, half a teaspoon of cumin, half a teaspoon of paprika, chili powder or preferably fresh chili's to taste, and salt & pepper.
add 2-4 chicken breasts (depending on how many people you want to feed) and keep cooking until they're done.
add 2 roughly chopped peppers (i usually go for a green and a yellow), mushrooms, and sweetcorn.
add a tin of tomatos, and about 200ml of vegetable stock
simmer for as long as you want to reduce it for, you can drain off the excess liquid or keep it going for ages, or add cornflour to thicken it up.

i usually use thighs or legs if i'm short on cash and de-bone them myself, but if you have the money, it's breasts all the way

Boneless thighs tastes much better than breasts and deliver better value as well, good call.

we have such thing as a pan sauce here, its like a more badass version of the uncle bens type premade sauces, meant to be used by putting it on the frying pan with whatever you are using the sauce on (normally chicken or mincemeat).

and i dont freeze my food, so i wouldnt know about that part.
man, i really missed that first sentence of your post about making stuff for freezing and about not needing more mincemeat recipes :D

also, don't use that curry sauce shit you get in jars. buy some passata and learn to make them from scratch because they taste a million times better

the mincemeat is fine as it is pork and not beef.
so this pansauce is like a sweet and sour sauce etc?

looks quite doable to live on 25/week for food at this rate :)

That is the one tip everyone should take note of, homemade sauces of any kind are a billion times better than the premade shit and work out cheaper too.

Your prices are a bit off Tris, either that or you are getting well and truely ripped off. Not trying to hijack but you can get much better for your money. Just need to shop around, I mean a 8 pack of sausages you could prob pick up on offer for £2 or something, the nice ones, and same with the mince, which means no way you'd spend the rest of that £4 on a few veg. Also the 'casserole' mix, is a waste of money, just buy some gravy granules and maybe some rosemary and add some tomatoe puree and whatever you like.

This, so much cheaper and tastes better.

Also chicken breasts have more protein per 100grams than thighs.

How can you have anything left to freeze?! :eek7:

Those are like, one regular meal for one person :p

If you want, try chili(ish);

White and/or kidney beans(chili sauce works).
Mince meat (about a kilo)
Sweet corn.
Other sort of meat(straight usable like meat cubes in a bag or some such)
Spices. Spices. SPICES!
And msot importantly, if you're not driving, alcohol. In the pot not your mouth

IF YOU MUST; veget...veg...veetab*urg*les.

Fry meat, add rest, simmer and eat.

are you sure you are not confusing something there?

100g of meat is 100g meat. perhaps if your thigh had the bone in, the amount of meat would reduce and then in comparison to a breast, there would be less protein per 100g.

Quick google mate:

Protein in Chicken

But I got the original info from ukmuscle and bodybuilding.com. Chicken breasts are higher in protein content than any other part of the chicken that we consume.

edi:// Had a read around some other sites, it is because the thigh has more fat content making up it's weight, so it has less protein by weight than breast. May not justify the massive price difference between the two though.

yep just confirmed that my self. there is about 5g extra protein per 100g of chicken breast v thigh.

chicken breast is also double the price!

Primavera Pasta Salad (for 2 people):

- 250gr of Farfalle Tricolore (Buterflies http://mirror-uk-rb1.gallery.hd.org/_exhibits/pasta/farfalle-tricolore-triple-DHD.jpg)
- 100gr of fresh tuna fish
- 1 onion
- 1 small green pepper
- 2 tomatoes
- Canned corn (1 small can)
- Olives

Sauce: modena vinaigrette (olive oil, modena aceto, and a pinch of mustard and salt)

1. Boil the pasta al dente
2. Meanwhile, slice the fresh tuna into small bits. Same with the onion and green pepper.
3. Fry the onion and pepper bits with a bit of olive oil till theyr stuffed, add the tuna fish and fry the mix. Let it cool (it must not be hot for when u prepare the salad)
4. Peel and dice the tomatoes
5. When the mix of stuffed tuna+pepper+onion is cooled, grab a salad bowl and mix it with the diced tomatoes, the canned corn and the olives. Put it in the fridge.
6. When the Farfalle are ready, strain the pasta untill it is completly dry and cooled.
7. Add the pasta to the salad bowl with the rest of the ingredients.
8. Prepare the vinaigrette: mix the olive oil, the modena aceto and the mustard

B2 got a pressure cooker for his birthday and I have to say, best buy ever! you can make up a vat of stuff and just freeze it, we also have a slow cooker (one of those crock pots that plug in you throw all the stuff in and leave for like 8 hrs). We do soups and stuff in them and get about 15 meals out of one batch.

Really easy adaptable soup recipe is one B2s ma sent us:

take your veg (have done courgette soup tomato soup nettle soup all from same basic format use as much veg as you like, the more the thicker) and cook until soft in a a little olive oil or butter, boil kettle and add a spoonful of stock to a pint of boiling water (I use reduced salt bullion (sp?) marigold brand, otherwise it is really salty with this amount of powder) and stir in.

When the veg is cooked blitz it either with a blender or we use one of those hand held things and stir in a big dollop or cream cheese if you want creamy soup but imo it is just as nice without, then the stock and stir and simmer until its all mixed in and cooked.

honestly it takes like 20 mins start to finish to do this and it a really nice soup, especially if you make bread fresh to go with it. The soups all freeze really well but are a bugger to seperate to only freeze one portion per tub.

oh and they can also be used as pasta sauces if you thicken them up a little.

Easiest,c heapest and best way to make a curry is simply getting a chicken for your Sunday roast and any chicken thats elft, throw in a pan with some fried onions, a small tin of peas and some mushrooms.

Then whatever curry you like, I prefer madras.

Its normally cheaper to buy a fresh chicken then to buy a cooked one from the counter at Moggies. Lidl do nice chickens i have noticed.

Potatoe Sallat

1kg fresh potatoes, boil them and peal them, cut in cubes.
mix 6dl creme fraiche with as much garlic as you like, i usually use 3/4 of a garlic, and half a wedge of parmessan, salt and pepper, a bit of sweet mustard, only need a tablespoon or so, drop in the cubed potatoes and blend.

You have to use freshly boiled potatoes or the creme fraiche will not get thick, just boil them and let them cool to room temprature and use them. Can add some chopped fresh herbs aswell, dill, chives, or parsley.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 Paprika (green, yellow or white, looks prettier with more colours)
2 red or yellow onoins, depending on your taste.
2 chilifruits remove the seeds
4 tomatoes remove the seeds use only the "meat"
Chopped tarragon
1½ dl lime juice
1½ dl white wine balsamico vinegar.

Chop the veggies in small cubes ½ cm, drop in a bowl, add the juice and vinegar salt and pepper, when you serve it drain the liquid before you spoon it on the plate. You can keep the salad dressing for a few days and just put in more veggies.

BBQ, chicken, etc. The veggie sallat is heaven with a good bbq, but works with schnitzel aswell. But with the potatoe sallat you dont have to use any sauce since it gets really creamy if you do it right.

And i've found out if you mix 2dl creme fraiche with minced meat, kebab meat or something similar in a pan, add some prefried onion, tomatoe pure that you fry a bit first and some viel broth (well not really broth but the thicker version) you get hell of a pasta sauce.

Can add that the veggies in the veggie mix loose water into the sallad dressing. so it might look like a lot of fluid in the bowl

pah, dethawed food is teh loose, preferably i'd cook when i want a hot meal :(

anything with Ginger, Garlic and Onion = win. Add Coriander for instawin.

example:

thinly sliced beef
alot of onions
alot of ginger
sweet soy sauce (aka. low salt)
garlic
Rice.

cutonions in half and then thinly slice them. chop garlic and ginger. Add in a pan.
Add Soy.
Put on top of rice (preferably boiled rice!)
done.

This is a slightly twisted Gyudon recipie. Gyudon has mirin and something else in it i think, and no ginger/garlic.

I like the sound of all these recipes, shame my culinary skills suck.

10 pence packs of noodles on buttered toast for the win! :(
