About an hour, maybe two .. but a lifetime of experience to know what to do

FYI, as far as I can tell, Mozilla renders it perfectly (thus, more recent versions of NS should too?) - the only visible problem is rather the choice to x-axis tile a background image that doesn't repeat well, which I'm assuming looks slightly off in IE too. Unless IE is utterly ridiculous. Which it might be.

Hey nobodys perfect and you know how hard it is to make water like that tile perfectly! Should work fine in all recent browsers though 'repeat-x' is a CSS1 thing, even works in NS 4.7. But NS 4.7 has a bug with backgrounds where if you specify a background to a table or cell, it will repeat that background in all tables/cells nested within it. Bug or feature? But it sucks either way .. there are ways round it but I cant be arsed with NS 4.7 users. They should know better

It repeats, yes, but its not designed to tile, hence there's a seam. If that was your definition of fine, I suppose it is
Anyone caught using a copy of IE4 or NS4 should be culled, in all honesty. There's no reason for them to resist upgrading. Even then, there's the ever-present problem of microsoft and netscape deciding web standards weren't for them.

Opera 6 doesn't get on with them too well either. I'm not sure which way is the correct way, but different forums (phpBB for example) have similar issues.
I know IE has an amazing ability to correct badly-coded webpages and make them look OK, when Netscape would choke. Encourages lazy coding, but you don't want the whole world ringing tech support when a site isn't displaying.

Opera 6 likes to lose its cookies every so often - right pain logging into BW/4 other random phpBB boards all the time.
Upgraded to Opera 7 beta... looks different.. the styles on the forum have changed completely (it no longer ignores all the style stuff) not sure for the better... but the cookies seem to be working again.
Might be I just overwrote the "irritatingly delete all your cookies" option somewhere...

There are options to control cookies I think. Though they do time out now and again. Don't really want them hanging about too long though, do you?

Seems to have stopped in Opera 7 though.

Sounds like you are just special then. I have to renew them every 30 days or something like that.
Then again, Opera 7 beta hates me. I can't get the buttons to change to text only. I can't live with that much screen real-estate being eaten up, so I'll pass on the beta.
