Building & operating rams: beginner's guide

Since I've noticed there's still a lot of experienced players who don't know how to build a ram, here's a quick guide.

Prerequisite: have at least 1 point in the siegecraft skill.

1. Get parts for an ironwood ram: 300 ironwood, 1x ferrite ram beak, 1x ferrite ram cladding, 2x swing harness

2. If you can't carry the parts alone, give some to a mate who will walk with you. Don't spread it over too many people, because the risk that someone LD's who is carrying your parts will increase. For this reason it's also good to bring spare parts if you can.

3. When you're at the door you want to bash, hit it once, making sure it is in view, in other words that you can damage it. If you can, then don't move; this is where you build the ram.

4. Press the siegecraft icon; select ironwood ram. Put the ironwood ram icon in your quickbar. (Best to do this in advance (; )

5. Press the quickbar number for the ironwood ram. You will now see a progress bar while building your ram. In most cases this takes about 5 seconds. PRESTO, a ram is standing in front of the gate, and you are controlling it. Now what?

6. Select the gate you want to bash. Type /aim.

7. Type /arm. If it says it can't yet, wait a sec and try again. If it works, you should see the animation of the ram being armed. If it still doesn't work, try /aim again first.

8. After 5 seconds, type /fire. The ram will now damage the gate. If the ram's not armed yet, wait a bit longer and try /fire again.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8. That's it.

Special situation: someone else built a ram, but died or stopped controlling it for some other reason. How to take control:
- Select the ram.
- Type /control.
- Start at step 7 above.

Hot to give up control of a ram:
- Type /control release.

------
If someone can post the exact weight of an ironwood ram, that would be very useful ( ;

Also you should make the macros:

/macro aim /aim
/macro arm /arm
/macro fire /fire

Now when the ram is aimed, start bashing your keys for /arm and /fire :D

and i do not know if it changed but you need:

-) sewing kit
-) smith hammer
-) planing tool

to build a ram ;)

:clap:

all together you need 6 slots (ram parts) and 3 slots (tools) in your inv to build a ram!

:clap:

the control panel never shows up when you build a ram, only when you take control of one.

ps, here's another tip :p, DONT read mythics own tutorial, it's hard to damage your ram using ability more than by reading that heap of sh*t :)

Right thnx Laryssa, Dieien posted the same remark on IG forum (;

He also posted the following:

Dieien wrote:
-create a quickbar for building and operating the ram, also add some macros like /g >>> NEED RAM PARTS AT THE GATE <<< or cfh if you're in trouble, as you're operating the siege equipment you can't do much besides it and usually have alot of archers/guards targeting you. (create that quickbar far away from your usual combat styles/spells, if you don't have the time to switch to that quickbar you shouldn't build the ram at this time)

-about the weight, Stevie (warden) and Next (champ) can carry one ram together and stay below encumberance values. Don't let mages carry ram parts at all, they'll get rooted with any desease/str debuff on them.
