Here's what I have selected so far. It comes down to about 1500 Euro so far; Not the limit by any means, but I have no urge to start tossing insane amounts of cash into the system. It possible, I want it to survive for 3-4 years (with minor upgrades) before I upgrade again. :)

- ThermalTake Shark case Black (129)
- NEC 3540 DVD RW (49)
- 2x Crucial 1Gb DDR PC3200 400Mhz (255)
- AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2000MHz (socket 939) (259)
- Radeon X850 XT PE 256MB DDR3 (PCI-e, 2x DVI, ViVo) (475)
- Gigabyte MB K8NF-9 AMD (socket 939) (105)
- 2x HDD 300Gb 7200rpm SATA 16Mb (330)
- 17" TFT (235)

For a total of about 1600 Euro. I have no doubt that this will run DAOC just fine, but it ought to be able to deal with FarCry, Doom3, BF2, etc as well. :)

dont' get a black case! shows up dents, scuffs and of course dust!

bloody GF had me constantly cleaning my PC room due to the damn thing incase her parents thought it was dirty :(

Personally I'd try to get it up to a 19" TFT. They're luverly and I adore my Philips 190S one :)

Mind posting which Cooling and screen you choose when you get to it Tesla? I'll be building a new system when I return from this Godforsaken place, so need something to work from. But being lazy as I am, I could see myself taking someone elses sketch :)

The 17inch TFT is just an additional screen so I can use my current system as botbox. I already use a 19" TFT for my main gamingfix. :) (No brand, 8ms screen that I bought for cheap in the supermarket. It's amazingly good for what it cost. ;)

Cooling? Just the fan that comes with the CPU. I don't care about the fans, as I'm both too deaf to hear em and playing music (loudly) anyway. :)

Maybe I'll add a Raptor hd as system disc to the setup. A little speed might be nice. The vidcard is enough for the next 2-3 years in any case. It's only marginally slower than the nVideo 7800GTX and it is cheaper. (And I love ATi)

It's been a while since I checked the screen world, I'm still using a 6 year old Panasonic model that has quite a few dents, but fortunately haven't had any damage on the screen itself. Has the TFT technology gotten so close to CRT that you can easily use it for gaming also? I remember that some years back there were some "problems" with slow updating TFT monitors etc, but perhaps I was merely reading the posts of some fanatic FPS people wanting every single frame out of their Counter-Strike.

TFTs are fine for gaming. But it's just like CRTs, you get what you pay for. :)

Get a coolermaster wavemaster case, change the 850XTPE for a 7800GTX then get a SLI nforce 4 board....then you can buy another 7800GTX in the future when they go down in price and have a damn good pc still.

Still though looks very good but i am really not a big fan of thermaltake cases.
