It appears that ipaqs, expansion jackets, compact flash cards and sunblock don't mix. After an unfortunate accident during a flight, my ipaq got covered in Nivia's finest. The ipaq seems to be quite happy, however, when I plug the CF card into the expansion jacket all hell breaks loose (wavy lines, clicks, etc). The instant I remove the expansion jacket, the ipaq comes back to life. If I insert the jacket without the cf card, its still happy.

Is there a way to test CF cards? I have another one for my camera, but I'm afraid that putting it in the expansion jacket (and vice versa with the camera) will damage it if it isn't actually broken.

if you feel like beeing nasty, go to a photo shop with one of them DIY digital photo printers and plug it in that.

Or buy a cheap usb CF reader and try it on your own pc/lappy

hurrah!

Took the expansion jacket to bits and found dabs of factor 25 around the ipaq socket, cleaned it off and everything seems to be ok!
