Help Buffalo NAS Torrent Client.

This is getting on my anus now.

I have a Buffalo Linkstation Live and also a Buffalo cable router. The NAS has a built in torrent client that I want to use. I have enabled it on the web admin as per instructions and I then have to click on 'open download manager' it then opens up a new window but the page won't load, gives a MS error and asks if I want to diagnose the problem, when doing that it says IE cannot connect to that port.

Now I am fairly sure the port (8080) is blocked on my router but I have opened that and it still won't connect, I say I have opened it but I guess I should say I *think* I have, it give me options for TCP and UDP or something and I haven't got a clue what they mean asking me for client side ip and the like. The download manager tries to connect to 192.168.11.4:8080.

God please help me before I kill things

Without wanting to sound annoyingly obvious, if it's all their kit, ring their tech support number? Then you can shout at some **** until you get the right answer.

Port 8080 is just another http port so is TCP. Are you sure you NAS is on 11.4 ? as it sounds like you need to browse to your NAS IP :8080

If it does not work your Router should not be the issue as its internal network traffic. I would try re enabling the Torrent Client and seeing if the NAS has any security settings.

TCP and UDP differ in a large way. In realy simple terms TCP goes like this. Client, I want this. Server, Heres this. Client, Thanks I Have that now i want this. UDP goes Server, Have this and this and this and this we done. Its a bit more complex then that but you can read up if you want to know more. Most bit torrent traffic is UDP now.

Client side IP is the address of the client hosting something on that port number. In this case I'd guess at the NAS IP address should be the client.

192.168.X.X is part of class C private IP address so is none routable to the internet so your routers firewall settings shoudn't be effecting inside lan traffic. I'd be looking at the NAT for the problem. Also check your routable IP + port number in a browser. The IP you want is the one you get assigned by your ISP not your LAN one. It shouldn't work until the NAS in corfigurered correctly.

And yeah, Go with Mystics idea. If its all there kit. they should be able to help in some way.

Thanks guys, I have contacted support and they told me to do a factory reset on the NAS which I did but it has made no difference, just contacted them and told them this. Still waiting for a reply.
