For a new build.

Current rig has lasted me a long time, upgraded the PSU and graphics card recently (ish) so am after a refresh of the MB/CPU/RAM.

Currently have an Asus Rampage Formula (only want Asus MB), Intel Core Duo E8400, 8 gig RAM.

Was thinking the following (thanks to Kryten and Draylor)

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...-6gb-s-d-sub-(vga)-displayport-dvi-i-hdmi-atx
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...gt-s-dmi-650mhz-gpu-8mb-smart-cache-35x-ratio
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...(1600)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-11-11-11-30-15v (x2)

Do I need this CPU bearing in mind that I have never overclocked this one and cannot be arsed if it leads to instability.

Comments welcome

Looks solid to be honest mate. I'm looking to do similar at the moment because any expense I can put through before April 05 comes off my Tax bill.

CPU is a good choice. It's not the newest model of the Intel series but out of that you get some assurance of stability. It's a futureproofing thing as well - the Core2Duo stuff lasted so long because it was so damn good (and still stands up surprisingly well now considering age and relative current worth) so in an ideal world you wanna maximise the gear you buy now.

Ram wise I still go for matched sets. Had an issue on one build that caused crashes when under strain. Everything else looks good.
