How did it end ?

I thought (from school) that the great fire of london had some impact on 'clensing' but recently watching QI they were talking about the great fire of london and only a few people died in the fire (under 10!!) looked this up on google and its right.

Anyone remember their history better than me ?

Fire didnt clense it, they qurantined people who had it/suspected to have it and it died out with them

people claim the fire did, but didnt really

the plague people were dying, people who werent were legging it, iirc - not enough people around to catch it.

the fire and subsequent rebuilt would of prevent a reoccurance more than anything

The plague in London was in 1665 - by the time the fire came along in 1666 the plague had mainly "burned" (excuse the pun!) itself out.

Like Naetha says, the plague was the year before and had migrated to France and other parts by 1666

I read up on this - quite interesting.

There was a bacteria that infected the fleas, causing their stomach to be sealed off, the fleas werenon stop hungry so would keep biting the rats (and humans) but as they were drawing blood the bacteria would make them vomit - thus injecting the infected blood into you.

Fascinating huh.
