Broadband checker results
We have tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband. We estimate your current maximum connection speed to be 5.0Mbps.

Our faster Broadband service offering up to 20Mb will be available in your area from 01-May-2010! and we estimate your maximum connection speed will increase to 5.5Mbps.

If you're a new customer sign up to BT Total Broadband now or order a package which includes BT Total Broadband.

We'll automatically give you the free speed upgrade within 6 months of it being available in your area, whether you're a new or existing BT Total Broadband customer.

hmm, go from up to 8mb to 20mb and I get a .5 increase. Glad it dont cost more money lol

I'm on BEs 24mb service and get an actual speed of 13-16mb.

Still nice and no complaints for the price ~£22/mo iirc?

The standard Be Unlimited is actually £17.50 a month and that'll get you up to 24mb.

Eh, I just ran the BT checker myself and got this:

Great news, our even faster broadband service offering up to 20Mb is available in your area! We estimate your maximum connection speed to be 9.0Mbps (Megabits per second) which means your telephone line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband.

I get 24 from BE though?!

Perhaps they're being overly cautious so as not to piss off Ofcom. Either that or they just suck balls. By the way gunner, do you live on top of the exchange or something?

BT's tester says I can get 4.0, when I can crank that up to 5.5 by sacrificing some stability. No indication of when my exchange gets the upgrade.

In fact Samknows.com says that it will be 31/03/2010. So let the good times roll!

It's close so I'm lucky. As for overly cautious... 9 instead of 24? Come on..

I've got cable, after years on BT.

I would go back to BT in a flash if I could. Virgin downloads pretty well, 10mb does actually mean 10mb, but there is constant loss at peak times playing games, and also at peak times the download speed drops too.

I dont think anyone else in my street had BT, which was probably why it was so great :(

BT answered a question "Why do you say 20mb when everyone else says 24mb". They replied that a very small portion of people can get the full 24mb. Most people near exchanges will get 20mb at best.

I do think it's odd how your difference is so much. Have you done a speed test to prove you get the full 24mb from BE?

The great thing about BE is that you will almost always get the speed that you're synced at. When I was with UKOnline and synced at about 19mb I wouldn't really get the full speed of that. Be syncs at 19.6 and I get absolutely all of that, they're aces mcwin.

With my current profile I can get around 2.5MB/s, if I change it to improve speed then I've seen it reach 2.8 ish.
