BT to slash broadband Prices..

Apart from the 1 or 2 times it has gone down in the last 5 months, it has been brilliant, good for CS, downloads and surfing. I mean 40 meg files in 12 mins, that's got to be worth £40 per month hasn't it? Especially when it is an always on service that still allows me to use the phone.

I really don't care how many people get it, (the more the merrier as far as I am concerned) or what price we all pay, if, and it is a big if, the service stays at its current level. The worry, obviously, is that it will not.

The guy I spoke to at my old ISP when I changed said he didn't think that BT could make a profit at £40 per month. If that is the case where will the money come from to keep the network up with the number of customers?

If I had the choice I would keep paying my £40 and keep the service at the level it is, not drop the price and standard at the same time. Sadly it doesn't look like we even get the choice.

Well said.

If BT do honour what they say about prices goin down to £15 a month, well the only thing that will put me off is the Installation Cost which is currently around somethin like £150 which is a bit outta my range...

you still have to pay line rental

filters are these things you have to put in your phone socket things, they cost about £12 each you'll probley find you need 2-4 of them.

BT are offering ADSL @ £15 a month to ISPs NOT to the user. The price we'll probley have to pay is £25 a month which is probley gonna be the best price, i doubt other companies can/will go lower than that.

is BT a word, phrase or just letters?

Also, yeah they do suck but if they drop their prices then the sheep will follow. only reason this hadn't happend earlier is because BT kept the prices high on ADSL since they own well pretty much everything to do with phone lines in the UK

Well it's going to happen

I guess Skyler and all the others here who are on BT ADSL are going to find out what it will mean to the service. I really hope it won't suffer, but who knows.

For all those rejoicing at the news think about this.

Shortly after I moved to ADSL, and when I'd got used to pinging 30-40, there was a problem with the service. Suddenly I was pinging anywhere between 70 and 600, with occasional spikes to 4000. This was considerably less playable than my old 56k connection.

During this time my downloading and surfing was not affected, so the majority of users wouldn't even have known there was a problem.

Most people on this forum are here because they are into online gaming, and, for all those people, the ADSL service I had for those couple of weeks wouldn't be worth 30p a month, let alone £30.

As I said, hopefully nothing will change, except that many more people will be able to enjoy the brilliant connection I do, and we'll all have an extra tenner a month to spend.

That will mean that BT have done it's sums, and know that they are able to offer the current level of service to more people for less money.

Who here trusts BT to have done that?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, details of the exchange serving your number could not found. This is because your local BT Exchange has not been upgraded for ADSL service yet or you receive your telephone service from another telecoms supplier.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant have ADSL even if i wanted oo :( :( :( :(

Well if you are looking for something else, I recomend NTL 512 broadband I've had it a while now and usually get a 40ish ping which is acceptable, along with my 24/7 internet connection I get 15ish cable tv channels, I also get my phone bunged in which gives me free calls to other NTL users after 6pm. Does any1 elses service do more 4 the money?? I don't think so. Granted every1 doesn't live in a cabled area, but if you do, go 4 it :)

If i could get cable i probably would, but no can do... on the topic of NTL though, we have a clan-mate who's using them & he gets majestic pings of 500+ most of the time... BY users seem to have it good though...

Sounds like your m8 has a problem not shared by the rest of us NTL users, mebe he should phone them and get it sorted, NTL has a very able call centre although it is mainly staffed by Welsh ppl ;).

oh and as for BY broadband, well thats all you get, no cable TV , I don't know if u get a phone line with them and what rates u pay 4 it.

Well, since I work for Telewest, I get all the TV channels, a free phone line (have to pay calls though), and a 1meg cable modem, all for free.

Though the 1meg goes back to 512k soon. Trials are over.

Mate are you serious? ADSL is laggy enough as it is. Just think of the problems that have been with bb with high prices. Almost every ISP has had to get a 155MB pipe installed because of the unbearable lag and horrid download speeds.

Cheaper ADSL = Worse Experience

Hey Doenutz, if you're going to quote me why don't you quote the whole sentance?

I have now posted 2 replies in this thread and if you read them both then you will see that I have grave misgivings about cheaper ADSL:

So go back, read both posts, (they are quite long so take a break in the middle) and then come back and tell me if you agree with me or not.
