Ive said it before the only reason why we think this country is bad right now is cause 20 years ago you didnt hear 10 times a day all the bad things outside your town. All you heard was the gossip from the women who stand and look out their windows

Its the usual problem of not enough authority, well... the wrong sort of authority. They have made it so that it is impossible for a policeman to actually do his job due to all the crap they have to go through every time they stop someone.

The government try to treat everyone equally whether they are criminal or not which usually results in the victim having a harder time. The punishment very rarely fits the crime. No crime against person or property should be punished with a telling off. Crimes against people should carry a real punishment, be it a custodial sentence or community service.

Blame the hand wringers.

Without eliminating gangs and criminals, it's the only option a person can do. It ofcourse shouldn't be like that, but it's a long way for humanity to eliminate criminals and thugs. If indeed ever.

I know it's not "ok" or "right", but people should realize that some things have to be left alone. If he had left it alone here, perhaps he would've walked away with a bruised ego and some ridicule. Note, perhaps. With gangs you never know.

There's a difference in standing up, and staying away from situations that you can't win.

Labour pulled the same shit in the 70's, tax cuts whilst borrowing money to pay for the shortfall. Left the Conservatives to pay it back in the 80's. While she (they) may have been responsible for selling off the countrys assets at cheaper than chips prices just to get tax cuts thereby screwing up many an industry & basically pissing the profits from the North Sea up the wall to promote the 80's 'me me me' culture (& win some elections) it's got very little to do with the current social malaise.

That's the fault of people not taking responsibility for their own actions; people thinking they've got a divine right to respect & things (rather than earn either); interest groups sticking their fingers in everywhere & people thinking that things need protection but freedom at the same time (& forever getting the mix just plain wrong).

For the record Raven - it's not socialism & it's got bugger all to do with socialism (unless you're a Yank in disguise & have sod all idea what socialism is & just like to bandy the word around 'cause it must mean its bad - then you're just using the wrong word).

By hand wringers I mean those that don't dare punish people through fear of either upsetting them or taking away their human rights... I didn't once mention socialists as the two are very different.
