dabs4work - Acer L410 X2 1GB 160GB DVDRW XPP (PS.L41C6.U01)

Ok I really have to admit.

I'm not a fan of most Acer stuff, but I have absolutely fell in love with these little things.

We're using about 3 of them in our workplace now and they're bloody great.

£260 for a desktop PC, barely bigger than a dictionary but yet offers a fair bit of punch for it's price tag.

They do use laptop memory mind and there's not much in the way of expansion but I couldn't possibly think of anything else at the moment i'd rather use for a media center PC or compact server for the home.

They're incredibly light as well and they're not exactly an eyesore.

I'm seriously going to have to buy one of these things for a media box for the living room of the house i'm moving into this year, it'll be fantastic for access to everyones videos/mp3s/porn/etc for the living room and considering we're going to have a massive TV in there this thing fits perfectly - add in a wireless keyboard and mouse and you're sorted!

Sorry I just had to proclaim my love for these things, they're genius!

Stupid question, but what do you get in the box? Webby is a tad unclear.

I'll grab specs when i'm in work tomorrow.

It's fairly decent for the price tbh and how compact it is!

Soz, I literally meant what's in the box. Is it just the unit, or do you get a Keyboard, Mouse, Video Cable, etc?

Unit, power pack, recovery disk, keyboard/mouse and a DVI/VGA converter.

I think that's about it.

The box it ships in is smaller than msot of the towers we have here heh.

What's the benefit of such a small desktop? Price wise, you could easily get a dell that blows that away on performance.

Yes but then Jebus mind find out you bought a Dell and hunt you down.

Dell are ok for laptops but man I hate their 'home computers'

Power consumption, heat output, possibly noise, space it takes up, aesthetics.

Ive had my huge cases and massive servers, sick of them. Small is indeed beautiful and often practical. Enough of boys and their cock extension cases.

I can't see the benefit of it, the lenovo laptop that tom and nath bought for example is less than £100 more and has better specs.

I'd have to double check but I'd say that it's fairly unusual for small boxes to come with DVI at the moment.

None of that has anything to do with the size. In fact, the smaller case may inhibit air flow and cause an increase in temperature.

Not to mention that a case that small will have even less noise dampening functions :p

Interesting box, but once you add on the VAT it isn't that cheap.

I'm more interested in the Eee PC desktop version - the Ebox. With 2GB RAM and a 160GB drive I am slightly concerned that it'll be priced a bit too high.

/pats Lian Li full tower in brushed black aluminium ;)

I agree though, this mofo Lian Li will be in a cupboard and replaced with something small and compact because it takes up far too much room :(. I was into big cases back in the day, but now it looks stupid.
