Yep, Rondalo looked like a lump of lard most of the game.

Brazil have always done badly in Europe, but first game nerves may of played a part?

Personally, I think this fact is pointless, the last world cup in Europe was '98, where Brazil reached the final, and would probably have won if Nike hadn't have decided to pick Ronaldo, who clearly was not fit. Before that was the 1990 World Cup, and 16 years ago world football was a pretty much unknown thing, with only the best players in South America playing abroad. Now however, the majority of the Brazilian squad ply their trade in europe, so "oh it's in europe" it such a shite excuse.

That said, the Brazilians didn't look to hot, and more importantly than the Europe based tournament is the fact that Brazil have never won the tournament when they were the favourites to win (although whether they were favourites for '62 is a contentious decision, I wasn't born then so.... )

Croatia underrated rather. And they "abused" the holes when Cafu and Carlos move forward real good.

CRoatia should have at least got a draw, their finishing was poorer than ronaldo's commitment.

While we are talking about teams underperforming, France continue to show why they only just managed to qualify.

As long as the French manager insists on playing Henry as a lone striker, they're fucked. And its not like they don't have some decent striking choices, Saha and Trezuget aren't exactly crap, and after the zero goals debacle in 2002 you'd think they'd have a point to prove.

The Brazil v Croatia result was pretty much what I expected; Croatia are a tight side defensively but don't have the best attacking options. I still think Brazil will carve open other less defensively-minded teams, like the Aussies, but I'm beginning to think we may have seen the last of Ronaldo at this World Cup; he really was a bit of a heffer out there.

I watched the first half (Spain - Ukraine) in the pub at lunch (late one ;) ) and i thought i was watching paint dry... no, drying paint would have been more interesting.

Hope it livened up second half

Aye, very good going forward, I thought Ukraine were unlucky with the red card, but Shevchenko did sod all.
Best teams I've seen so far are, Czechs, Argies, Spanish & Italians, however since Koller is injured, and Baros might not be fit, I'm not sure how far the Czechs can progress.

Brazil, France & England were all disappointing tbh, and the Dutch weren't particularly amazing.

I'd rather watch the match with my own eyes and form my own opinions thanks. You should try it.

And Gat_Decor. WTF? 4 goals and you thought you were watching paint dry? If you want high scoring games go watch basketball.

I had a sneaky suspicion about Spain; I put an outside bet on them last week, and you can still get 11-1 now. They've always underperformed, but people said that about France until 8 years ago.
