boring tech problem with demo - ddraw.dll:Ddentry14

i'm unable to run the demo cos with the error msg in the title - d3d8.dll linked to missing export ddraw.dlldentry14.

I've got directX 8.1 installed and have got a ddraw.dll file in windows/system and copied it to the UT folder for good measure but no joy.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
