Boring map cycle

As the topic says the map cycle on the FFA servers are extremly boring, its been the same for over a year or so now i'm guessing, and no wonder some ppl get bored with it.

Basically it needs changing, as i understand it has been mentioned in the past? For map ideas cycling thru the ZTN maps 1 to 6 with dm3 e1m2 thrown in there as well.

It really needs to be changed as myself and many others are incredibly bored of the current map cycle.

Totally agree with Trez here. I never liked the map cycle in the first place.

With the renewed interest there seems to be in Quakeworld, now is the perfect time to spice things up and maybe encourage more of the old guard to play again.

As for maps, I would agree with ztndm1-6, dm2-3, and e1m2.

Yes i must agree also, seeing as Treznor/Caustic and myself have played enough Qw to know what's good or not, methinks a different map cycle would be better.
I don't mind the occaisional unusual map but maps like UKCLDM4(even though not a bad map) are a poor choice.DM3 twice would be nice:)
Ztn's 1-6 Dm2/3 even 4 would be fine, and Uk2.E1M2 too...
Plus maybe frag limit being lowered to play the maps more...?
This is a Ffa server rem. not for teamies...

Yeah you're right, it's got a little tiresome.
However, i think you're crazy with the e1m2 suggestion, i can see it now - "stop camping the rl you ******" and, also when there are only 2-3 ppl its a bit gay with only 1 rl, no shaft.
The ztn's are a good laugh, but also i think ultrav should be moved off the custom server and onto here - its a great and very intense map, similar to ztndm3 in that way. Perhaps dm6? dm4 would be fun, but not for the modemers.

best ffa maps imo are ztndm3-6, dm2/4/6, aerowalk, asylum, contamin, punish, ukooldm6. all hi-octane, smallish maps best suited for 2-6 players. imo the currently fraglimit is fine, however timelimit is too long. if its taking 20mins to shift the map its obvious there arent enuff players on the server for good playability, timelimit 11 would have my vote (3 pents/rings :p). the only time fraglimit 50 seems too high is when ure on a big map like dm3/uk2 with only a few players.

i cant see the logic in running the current cycle on the custom ffa server, nobody ever plays there because its mostly all boring, huge, 3yr old teamplay maps like uk4, uk2, uk6, tits2, mgbase etc which are exceedingly poor ffa maps. its such a waste of a server slot when there are so many excellent smallish custom maps out there. its usage is dwarfed by that of connectfree ffa, it has worse pings for everyone than bw pretty much but ppl still play there because it runs decent maps (it has more server minutes than any BW server according to CLQ stats)

Just change the map rotation on both the ffa servers fs, and put on smallish fast-paced maps. Every1 seems to agree on ztndm1-6 and dm4, ultrav etc. Just pick and chose a few other maps from the ones HT suggested, they sound fine to me.

Yeh, the UKs and Titan2 r for teamplay not ffa. Androm9 works OK(ish) for ffa tho. Not that I've been on a qw ffa server in ages :)

/me is quite tempted now...

i think the standard ffa atm is perfect, the only map i don't like on it is uk2, but i'm sure most love it :)
i agree tho, the custom map one definetly needs to be changed, cos its a complete waste atm.
suggestions: z4,z5,dm6(i know its not custom :p)ultrav, qcon1? (heh)

Lo, my opinion if it helps

I would concentrate on the unused custom ffa server, its pants atmo!. I'm one of the guys constantly on the cfree servers, and to be honest myself and a few others refuse to play BW FFA because,

1. the current cycle has been on there so long the regulars 'own' constantly, perhaps because 99% are clan players who have practised the id maps to death.

2. the custom map server is always empty, the regular server almost always full, so to get regular ffa praccy on those maps is difficult anyway :( (so I/We get owned again, lol)

The ztn maps are generally very popular, but there are many, many maps produced over the last to years worthy of a good 8 player thrash. examples EFDM7, 8, 10, aggressor, sanity, ZED2, not forgetting older maps like ultrav, bless, debello, aerowalk. A map cycle of say 10 -15 maps would also be better as people tend to drop out of the ones they dont like leaving room for others to enter. (A certain 'quad runner' posted above always leaves the cfree server when aerowalk appears, no quad perhaps? :)

Well if you lot can decide amungst yourselves what you would like to see then ill make it happen.
There are plenty of maps on both servers, just the cycle is restricted.
So, what do you want to see?
Extend the existing cycle with more maps or dump it and have a totally new cycle?

In my defense, I just don't like aerowalk, whilst i happily play other maps with no quad, for example z5. Also ultrav has a quad, but it doesnt come into use much :)

Hmmm...

Just read Horus' above post :). Let's try and agree on summat quick then.

Standard ffa - Put in dm6 and dm4, lower the timelimit to 11.

Custom ffa - Uzse z3-z6, ultrav, aerowalk, and some of the smaller maps that ht said (i personally haven't pld em). Also drop this timelim to 11, and try and implement a voting thing onto both servers if possible.


Thoughts?

I myself hate dm2,dm4 (coz i'm crap on 'em :) ) but I agree the custom maps ztn2,3,4,5, ultrav,aerowalk are good fun. I would still like to see some of the newer maps as named in the previous post. I guess if we don't play 'em they'll become obscure and difficult to find. Shame ,as they are good maps. I know theres a conflict with 2 versions of one the ztn maps around and its probably best that one is left out as most people would not keep switching copies of the map just to play on game. Just don't put any ID maps on a custom map server :)

TBH not really fussed on what maps are put on, well within reason, just a CHANGE would be nice, as if you went on a server and asked most ppl, they would say that they are fed up with the current cycle.

I'd really like to see some of the DaMaul maps. 6 especially.

UK2 is a classic but perhaps as a TP map like Titan2. It's still great tho.

Pls remove e4m3 (most boring FFA map ever :(). Add e1m2, dakyne (rocks fs!), dm6, e2m2, e3m1 and ultrav. I'd like to see ztndm3 replaced by a better ztn one as i find 3 is the worst of them. bye,

leave the id maps off the CUSTOM MAP server,theres room on the other one for those, hehe.

i'd rather see one server with a mixed (custom/id maps) map cycle but with more players than two servers but only players on one of them :( Increase maxclients and remove one of them ffs
