Sweet - cheers.

Is what he says true? That you can make such a big profit from Online Poker?

Well an example is me today, loaded up £10 ($18) in my ladbrooks at 4pm @ 8pm I had $145..so yeah if ure good you can make quite a bit. But it can go the other way so i would never give up my day job. BUt its a nice little earner when you have some free time, better than daoc at least :p

Saying that its not something you can start to play and expect to win, I have played poker for 5 years, I know what im doing.

when my friends are gone for holliday, work etc and i am alone i usualy do some of these things:

I play some Texas hold em on the internet. If you like poker you can try that, just dont bet to much :p

You can also play some entertaining single-player computer games like civiliztion etc if you like stratergy games.

Watch a movie at home/ and eat some popcorn and maybe pop a beer is also one of my favorite things to do when i am alone.

.... hang out on this forum.... (i do that when i am tired of the other things I have stated :p )

Yes somebody makes a lot of money but the majority loose, and someone loose a lot. A friend of mine lost 1 500 € in 2 weeks. Personly i play most at free tables for fun to improve my skills and get more experience.

I have tried some with real money and i think my total profit is about -20 € , worth it for all the fun.

Poker is a very fun and challenging game (texas hold em ). It is much more skills involved then people belive.

It works fine if you have a normal self controll. I play both slot machines in stores ,online poker and i sometimes gamble on footbal matches etc. To be honest my total profit a year is aprox from -30€ to +30 €. I dont care if i loose some money sometimes, i gamble for the exitment and fun and with dreams of winning.

I think at least 80 % of people can gamble in a "healthy way"

Just curious on what basis you guys build up the cash on the first part?

How can you tell how good a hand you'll have from 2 cards out of a potential 7?

Well you dont, but if you get a pocket pair (pair pre-flop) or high cards ace-king etc they are strong starting cards.

It's quite easy to grasp the rules. Think I know most of it already

Thing is, if you're new just wait for high (J-A) suited (same colour) connectors, or maybe lump on to some smaller suited connectors and of course the pocket (starting hand) pairs (best at 8 to ace if you're just starting and don't know much about positioning.)
Of course most of the time having two high cards (ten and above) will be enough to join in on, but for starters try the above. The trick is basically to give yourself the highest chances to win ;)
And when you finally lump on to something if you don't have anything, but you're in a good position bluffing is a good thing to be able to do, but I think it'll all come when you've played for a bit :)

My dad taught me poker when I was 10. Been playing since then.

Not tried it over the internet, though. TBH I'm not sure I will. I have serious doubts about the security of my personal and credit card details these companies keep. I do not want my personal and financial details being passed onto 3rd parties.

Pokers easy but I play it in a real Casino. I guess if you wanna play online fine but imo nothing beats doing the real thing. Good luck :)
