I posted this in techie but I'll try here too.

So I have this OS I downloaded. but it's an ISO file. I.E OS.iso. I've burned it to CD but it won't boot from the disc. How do I set it up so it boots from the disc, so I can format and then install the OS?

Thanks.

you got cd drive as you first bootable drive in your bios? should boot as normal providing you burnt the iso image to disc properly

Could get an Isobuster to open it up and then remove the files on it and manually boot it up like that.

I think you still need to make it an ISO cd even though its an image? If you just drag the iso file onto the CD it will just be a file iirc. If your using nero, create an ISO CD or something, its been ages since ive done it (somewhere along the menu bar at the top). Then theres a browse option or so which you can find your ISO file. Thats how i did it anyway ;D

Use IMGBurn drop the ISO onto the desktop icon and it will burn the Disk for you. Some programs will not burn the ISO they will just put an ISO on a data disk. Then just make sure your CD drive is higher than your Hard Disk in the boot order and as look as the ISO is good you should be fine.

Just double click the iso file itself and then your favourite burning program should be starting. Make sure it's set to burn an iso instead of just data or something.

I always use CDBurnerXP. It's free and does nearly everything.

When done check your BIOS if its set to boot from cd-rom first.

If all fails chech with MagicIso if there's any data in the file at all.
