They change a lot after Life, the Universe and Everything. You won't like So Long or Mostly Harmless.

They're great, but a very different type of book.

I noticed that Life, The Universe and everythink was a lot more serious than the first two, less comedy.

The later books go even further in that direction. Very different novels.

Red Dwarf movie on the way. Don't hold out a lot of hope for it though.

I cannot stand red dwarf. Is it just me who thought it was the least funny comedy ever to invade my poor telly ?

Actually most evil dictators are surprisingly sharp TV critics.

i read the book of sleepers recently (recommended by a friend), then saw the movie.. the movie was utter shit compared to the book, which i thought was pretty good...

i haven't read many other books that have been made into films, but i'd rather read books than watch films anyway, it's just a matter of taking the time to do it.

The really funny thing for me is, that it's at times like these when you all post how much you like to read books, but at any other time of the year it's a case of "got no time" and "books are boring" ...although some of you are most likely telling the truth.

IMO "Sphere" is a good example of a fine book ruined by making it into a film. (and no i'm not using that as an example that i actually read, it's just one of the very few books that i have read that stuck in my mind for more than 5 minutes)

ahhh

the SPHERE

i loved the book

bought it when i was down in cornwall and read it on way back and after

anyhow, i saw the film after, and bought the DVD... utter shite DVD asnd film compared to the book... i mean... in books you make up ya own worlds, ya own charactors and everything else, but in films its at the directors descretion

so... books are far better, in ANY way... but they take longer, which i find is a good and bad thing...

Ultimate Test

The ultimate test of books v film must be made in December this year.

Early last year I started readin Lord of the Rings, all 3 volumes.

I thought the books were excellent - hope the film doesnt let it down.

Course it will be worse than the books. Not that I've read em but so many ppl have that they will slag off the film for whatever reason.

Now the ultimate test would have to be Battlefield Earth. Which is the most awful :)

Was almost tempted to waste 15 squid on the DVD just to see if it was as bad as everyone said but er indoors gave me a mean look so I chickened out :)
