Booking form, order numbers and customer records

I'd like to get some ideas on how to go about having an easy-to-use database on a website that can process orders of tickets via a payment module with a customer refernce number and keep a database that can easily be searched to see who has ordered and payed for what.

I was thinking perhaps osCommerce or Zen Cart as an easy way to set this up, what do you think about this and do you have any other options, taking into account I'm trying to keep costs to a minimum?
