Anyone seen this yet? We going to cinema tomorrow it's either Eli or Daybreakers.

I haven't seen it yet, but I can't stand Denzel Washington so I'm likely to be biased. Daybreakers does look quite good and I hear / read mostly good feedback on it.

the geek in me still thinks he looks too much like Eli from Half Life 2 in the trailers to be able to watch it without waiting for him to die with a tentacle in his head.

I think I might go see it on Orange Wednesday, looks like it'll be silly but fun. If I do I shall report in.

Interesting, but spoilerific major plot holes. And I should have paid more attention to the trailer, as it's far too religious for me!

I want to see it, but my only issue is Denzel Washington as an action star. Sure he was good in Under Fire or whatever it was called, but as a kung-fu king type guy... not so sure.

Isn't that kind of the point though? That it's a fairly unspectacular man, it could be 'anyone' - from what I know about the film having some elite Neo-type character would counter the point.

I've heard good things about it from friends. I'll probably wait for the DVD release to see it.

I saw it this evening. It's probably one of the better films I've seen in the last few years, I'd definitely recommend it.

I enjoyed it too however they could have done better with explaining why America was a wasteland.

From another forum I posted on:

"The Book of Eli - Bit of a mixed bag this one, it's both good and bad, enjoyable and ludicrously silly.

Plot-wise it's very thin on the ground, and the end is pretty silly. It can be quite clichéd, but at the same time it's quite entertaining, very well made and has a decent enough sense of humour. As expected, Oldman shines through with the best performance. It's technically very accomplished, it looks and feels great and there are some very clever (and no doubt very hard to shoot) camera work."

When asked about the silhouette scene:
"
the first fight he has with a gang near the start of the film that's filmed largely in silhouette? Action-wise it's pretty good, it's shot very well and is bloodier than I expected it to be (along with most of the film tbh - although it's hardly a gore-fest). It makes an impact.

Thinking back about the film now, the first 20 or so minutes are pretty good. Probably the best bit of the film, it certainly gets worse towards the end. A couple of great bits in the middle though, in particular when they find the elderly couple and their house.

The atmosphere and visual elements are the best part of the film for sure. Some of the landscaping looks utterly brilliant, a lot of it must have been CGI but it was so top notch I really couldn't tell what was and what wasn't."

How many slow-mo walking shots?

I only just got round to watching this, it's like fallout 3 the movie. I thought it was enjoyable, annoyed at the direction it took with him gaining a sidekick. I'd watch it again purely for the fun of it, it's not as serious as it wants to be.

It was good, not anything particularly memorable though. If it wasn't for Denzel Washington I probably wouldn't have bothered watching it.

Ending was shit and I felt the whole point of the film was to introduce a crappy twist for the sake of a twist. I do like a good twist at the end of a film Since The usual suspects there are too many films that exist purely for some half arsed twist.

Same here, nearest to a fallout movie one could get without making a fallout movie.

Main char, sidekick, redding town. Throw in a dog and it would've been perfect :p

Thoroughly enjoyed it and the ending was a nice touch, gave it a rewatch value too. Especially enjoyed the bit where they stuck the bible among the others; effectively killed the "we are only pro-bible here!"

Looks nice too, though they could've focused a bit more on the guy walking around solo, living in a wasteland, before dropping the small town in there.

I was half waiting them to go on a "Get mah bible back!" revenge run, but glad they didn't, would've been a bit too standard plot.

4/5, 5/5 reserved for fallout movie, here's hoping someone aces it :drink:

Gary Oldman far better than Denzel, although Denzel isn't shit. I think the reason I went to see it was largely down to Oldman in slightly mental baddie mode. :D

There is a light reference to 5th element moment too :p

Forgot to say that yes, oldman does his old thing good, even if SLIGHTLY not up to par with his 5th element performance.

I found "The Road" tickled my fallout gland better than Eli.

Too many plot holes, exagerated actions scenes, not enough character building, sidekick acting awful, etc

DayBreakers is almost a B movie. Bad acting all around, it all felt so scripted and forced.

Go see "The Road" for cinematic awesomeness.

I thought it was pretty average at first, mainly because of the bible storyline being ridiculous and shit. Then it turned out he was blind and i felt like i'd been raped by the writers.

Spoilers FFS.

Yeah, I just thought that. And I've got the sort of mind that no matter how long in the future I watch the film I'll remember.

Ah well. One to miss I guess :(
