A Bonedancer only guild made by a very good friend of mine. I see this lot xping together, and it's so funny, theres about 10 of them and theyve got about 4 pets each :p. Well I know alot of their members very well having been guilded with them at HH for so long. 'Someone' has reported to have been 'offended' by the guild name Boners Inc .... when I was told, I couldnt believe it, 1 complaint and it's changed to Unleashed Army.

Kemor please give some feedback on this, I really cant understand how it can be offensive, unless it's by a complete pervert. I would like to launch an appeal to this decision because I think it's over stepping the mark, it's really upset a few on friend of mine who were happy with the Bonedancer guild. Also I might add that a Bonedancer can be looked upon as a pornstar, but as perverted as I am I can figure one out for Boners Inc, sorry m8 I just think this is a very bad decision, and many would like it changed back.

Must say, that Midgard has had by far the most people whine about name changes, when in reality, they just didn't think about it for a moment. But this is BarrysWhine, so please, entertain us.

Oh, and it'll never happen. GOA will never go back on a decision like this, and I can't see any good reason for them to do so, just because YOU tell them they should. And "...1 complaint...", you know this? How? Pray tell how you know for a fact that only 1 person complained.

Aye its 'slang' which afaik isn't an official language and in this case isn't meant as 'slang'. Being english I do understand that, but Bonedancers unfortunetly dont get me thinking that way ;).

I guess, in theory, if i were to report someone named... i dunno... (thinks of something 100% innocent) Fork maybe... and i claim to be offended by it, afaik, goa would end up changing it.

in this case maybe multiple people reported it... but i think in every case, u should have a set number of reports needed to have a name changed. Maybe someone can tell me if this is already in place?

Your honestly saying that when the name...

"Boners Inc"

Was thought up, It WASN'T made with some reference to erections.

Despite "Boner" having a non slang meaning, it is without doubt, more commonly used as slang. The name is a play on words, and it is fairly obvious one too.

You HAD to know this would be changed at some point.

IT broke the CoC... that's all there is to it.

Not a lot else to say... <leaves thread for good>

It may originally be an American slang word but American culture surrounds us - movies, music, books etc. It's a word that's recognised as being a euphamism for an erection by a large proportion of the demographic playing DaoC. Personally I wouldn't take offence at it nor would a lot of people. However some people clearly have and have complained therefore you have to change the name. Accept it, be adult about it, moaning on these boards about it will clearly have no effect at all.

Im British, and if someone say's "She gives me a boner" erection is the absolute first thing that "springs" to my mind when the word is said. If that doesn't make it slang I don't know what it is then. I don't think theres one person at university or college in Britain who wouldn't associate boner to an erection. Maybe you are just old and past it :p

I'm not offended by it, I wouldn't be offended if someone had a guild called "Fucks About". But I could see why other people would be, or wouldn't want that kind of name in a medieval rpg.

reporting names for being offensive etc is stupid with maybe a few exceptions.. unless its something really serious then its your issue deal with it youll come accross much worse irl then what are you going to do? call the police every time anyone says a bad word? :rolleyes:

So Hitler may anger all right-thinking people, if the shoe was on the other foot, would a character named "Ghandi" anger all those despots and dictators which play DAOC?

What i'm saying is, it takes all sorts to make this world, and everyone has an opinion on what is offiensive and what isn't.
However in GOA's world, when they say it is offensive, IT IS OFFENSIVE, and you can't argue with the men with the big guns.

Comparing "Boners Inc." with a name like Hitler is taking the point of this to somewhat of an extreme. I'm fairly sure that "Boners Inc." is no more than some harmless fun among friends, and what are we playing this game to do other than have fun?

so there fore boners as a guild makes sense as there are more than 1. I think you'll find Mid has a higher number of changes because Brannor picks on the mIds more than anyone else.

It is a roleplaying game though Mirieth, it's not a counterstrike clan, Boners Inc doesn't "fit" under either definition of the word.

On a side note theoretically in my opinion: Hitler is a name. Having a character named a name shouldn't be offensive etc because its a name and thats its purpose, its not ewul.
