Bonedancers, wtf ??

they can slam?.. umm weird never remember a champ slammed me.. oh well.. never seen one who killed me ina a fair 1v1 either.. they usually run off when i take away 25% of their hp in 1 hit.. also if u only get to killa zerker rarely u prolly only get to kill the gimped ones :)

About 2% of all champs spec s/s so shield stun champs bit rare :)

This game isnt meant to be a solo game. Each class as its role to play and the role usually only comes into its own in a group environment .

Supp BoneDancer in Thid is a really good "melee caster" but 2bolts/arrows hurts too much. In a ranged fight (often a Caster in group) a SuppBD in Thid has not by far the firepower of a RM but does not need the constant care of healers/shamys.

25% in one hit being about 400~ dmg? I presume you were in ratmode at the time, cos none of the zerkers on prydwen do that high damage normally. if you are in ratmode champ just snare, wait for ratmode to run out, FA back to full life then have a proper fight ;)

alternatively you're a troll with 35 qui to hit so hard, in which case you hit slow enough that come on, you really don't have a hope do you? ;)

hmmm... this is an echo thread... many think that the balancing between classes still has a long way to go.

Speaking as someone who's only EVER played a merc since last November (one of the original broken classes - still got some way to go yet to fix it) I'd recommend you understand the following as a good rule of thumb... from the Old Skool manual:

For PvE

If Grey, Green or Blue Cons are kicking your butt - you have a problem, probably down to quality of your equipment and your style.

All classes should be able to solo a yellow con - provided you aren't walking around with grey con equipment.

All classes are supposed to be able to group with one other person to take on oranges in PvE - though tanks generally stand a good chance to solo these consistently if you find the right type of mobs.

Classes which can consistently solo reds - mythic are going to nerf you so don't complain.

Classes who can solo purples consistently - auto nerf, full stop.



Keep in mind, as a lvl 50 merc with some nice RA's I can consider going into a fight with a red or puple con and come out winning if I use every ability, realm ability and potion available to me. This would be a one off and thus doesn't qualify for nerfing (downtime would be 30 minutes for that feat and I'd die trying)... any class who can solo purples or reds with little or no downtime... your time with this ability is limited I'm afraid.



Now translate the above to RVR and you have slight advantages and disadvantages gained when Realm Ability specs come into play, not to mention the all-important buffs.

In an ideal world when one on one in RvR (assuming 2 yellow cons fighting)...


Primary tanks should beat casters in melee when toe-to-toe hands down regardless of realm. Rule is for casters to not let them close and normally kite away if they do. A Pure Caster who can kick hell out of a tank in melee without casting spells is a bit disheartening and I'd say somewhat of a myth.

Primary tanks fighting bastardisation of casters and tanks when toe-to-toe well it's still considered a tank would come out on top... but it's a tougher fight. You need only look at what a Friar can do against an Armsman in a duel to realise that well... being a tin can with no spells is not all it's cracked up to be, and yes mythic need to consider what they are going to to about the rarest classess in the game now (ones without some form of casting as a base spec).

Primary tanks vs Sneaks... they get the drop on you, you're as good as dead... expect to see quite a few kiting tanks when sneaks are about ;)

Primary tanks vs Primary Tanks... 50-50 as it should be.


There is a lot you can do to increase your odds, there is a lot you won't know about your oppenent that could explain why in fact that yellow con just kicked your ass and you didn't expect it. If they are a class that kills PvE red cons solo for breakfast then you ARE at a disadvantage unless you can also perform the same feat. They could also be wielding someones level 50 buffs, if they have some friendly realm mates.

Play your class well, have your equipment all up to date and repaired to 100%, get it all near 100% quality, invest in the correct realm abilities and the still biggest single determining factor on whether you win or die will be your group and realm mates.

The hardest characters on the server will fall just as quick as a grey con if you've got the teamwork to back you up.

The Mid healer class gets an 11 sec baseline single target stun, just that class and no other, and since healers don't get quickcast, its completely interruptable and impossible to use while in combat. Plase don't try and compare this with a 9sec baseline quickcastable stun for 3 hib casters... Mid casters get root or mezz, which is of course broken by the next spell they cast.

This is not a whine I'm just asking you not to compare those 2 abilities since they are nothing like each other. Also no we do not get group purge, we get perfect recovery, 1 perfect ress that can be used every 30 minutes. Nice though that is, its not really comparable with group purge or bunker of faith, those 2 keep people alive, ours is only useful when they're dead.

True, but stuns are pretty nerfed anyway, especially on tanks. :p

Nahh but you do have BoF And SoS mid's have..... group meals yes thats it.....

was doing some my highest moment in thid sunday night.
killed maybe 3 alb who stand close waterline, one caster only, 2 tanks? (highlander/briton)
interupt caster, soon he was dead, tanks still just standing?!
NS hit one of them, dunno? kill atleast 1 more, maybe other too?
but caster shoot me whit 2 bolts and kiss grass after that.

run against 2 hib last night, they kill me easily, stunn and other stand between my legs, pbaeo did job.

there was one more situation against alb in brigde when they was taking ck, but thats another story.

Necro's are only "uber" in PvE vs <red mobs.

In RvR, they can, at present only, ignore LoS. ANY other caster can beat them.

The Powertap is a 3s casting time and can drain your power fast due to the pay-before-cast system.

And here's the peach. Lifetap. The notes say 3 second you, instant pet. Bullshit. It's 3 second YOU, Proc when pet swings.

So, at Level 50, a Necro has a L44 pet, which in essense, is themselves and can't be targetted from group panel for healing. The pet has as 6 second swing time. Use a speed debuff or slow-style on it, and that goes through the roof. Hell, heard today where a NS took out a necro 1-on-1 and the necro pet got ONE swing in. Slow/stun styles = dead necro.

A Bonedancer is by FAR THE FotM class to play. There are NO future nerfs lined up for them that we know of, and LoS goes soon. Once that is gone? Let's talk again. But please, stop spewing bullshit about Necros being uber, they're not. Bugged? Hell yeah.

My bonedancer is lvl32 so far (not getting much chance to play it now) and tanks anything up to red con. Red con is not a guaranteed win, but thats part of the fun.

However, its not a sup boney, its mix of BA/Sup. As always, I tend to experiment. Getting from lvl25-30 was annoying as my spec was gimped for those levels and I've mostly been solo with it. At 30 it came together and was back on track for romping through mobs.

Base DoT, Spec DoT+Lifetap, Nuke, QC Nuke+Lifetap, get tanking+lifetaps. Dead mob. Fun. Still not as elegant as dark SM in PvE (but then, what is ;)) but fun nevertheless.

Because of the buggy pets though, I'm beginning to think might have to pretty much get rid of BA at 40 when I start to think about the end game. Would like to hear from any 50 bonies to see what they think. Sup based bonies don't depend on pets to do damage since the pets are focused on supporting the caster which reduces the effect of some gaping holes in the pet control.

I mean, come on. Archer pets that will only attack things you send your commander at? Thats just gross stupidity and negates the concept of ranged attacks, doubly so since the minion pets die if the commander dies.

Love ae DoTing mobs though and pulling them at me. Can take crowds of blue cons this way. Haven't tried yellow yet though :)

Shammy DoT + Boney DoT together = much nastiness. Already done this a few times in PvE and its evil how fast things die.

As is quite evident from my post I was merely relating what I had read on other forums. Indeed I think the specific problem people have with the class is the line of sight issue.

Played around with a lowbie necromancer alt but I can safely say its not the class for me ... far too tricky to control. And too many dodgy issues like not being able to get into shops or milegate rooms without losing the pet and recasting.
