When he looked at his watch he noticed it had stopped so he took it off - as soon as he put it down it started again - it did this every time until he was better - 3 days total - odd eh - any explanations?

It had a second hand so was pretty obvious - its like the illness threw his bodies natural electric field out of whack or he was generating a ton of static (maybe from wiping too much ;P) - weird tho either way.

My dad died a week ago last Tuesday and on the days leading up to it The Hoover blew up, literally bits fell off and smoke poured out. The washing machine broke, several lightbulbs went and starter switches for flourescent tubes failed. Curious.

Nah it's ok Lou, he'd been ill for a long time so it wasn't unexpected, still a bit of a shock and not easy for mum, but we're getting on ok. Just had a mad busy 10 days or so sorting stuff out, you have no idea the volume of stuff that you need to do when someone dies.
