BNP secured the 3rd seat at Newbury byelections.

If that wasn't scary enough in itself, you should've heard the commentary that followed. "White" this, "white" that... Whilst I disagree with certain things the Government does re: asylum seekers, ethnic minorities, etc (and the fact that it seems all of the undercover programmes on tax dodgers and the like always seem to be Asian -- whoa, racist generalisation there) - this has got to spell trouble. :(

He actually said that their objective was an entirely white Britain.

Scary.

This is how they're gaining seats...asylum seekers are a problem and the main parties aren't doing much so more people vote for BNP....although these voters don't seem to realise that this is only a small part of the BNP the rest involves Nazi tactics :(

Its funny looking at the idiots who surround the elected person, pure BNF ppl.

Ugh.

We were Lib Dem... we're now Conservative... this is a joke, the lib dems have improved our area greatly since taking it from the tories a few years back, and for some reason, voters are utter spastics that appear to: 1) have shit memories regarding how fucked up the tories were for this area, and 2) believe utter lies. exactly how do the tories expect to improve services around here, whilst cutting tax? It's the magical money tree again!

Needless to say, I am not happy about this, especially as I'm all for the libs.

Who really gives a fuck about better public services when all we really want is more money in our pocket to go out and get pissed and have better holidays? :)

Thats down to the fact that Wales isn't seen as a goldmine, in fact there really isn't any thing in Wales...I can just see a immigrant going through England to get to Wales ;)

I hope that Nazi guy gets elected in France. We need an excuse to bomb the shit out of the rancid frog eating bastards.

why bomb them? Le Pen is a just punishment if the French elect them. Besides there are also side benefits --> France out of the EU and refugees will be stopped at the other side of France instead in Calais

*sigh*

1) Jean-Marie Le Pen is by no means a Nazi. The National Front in France is absolutely nothing like the BNP over here. They're very right wing, sure, but their policies revolve entirely around nationalism - ie put French people first. In everything. That includes non-white French people, second generation immigrants, etc. That's not to say that his policies as a whole are entirely tasteful, or would represent a particularly stable government (especially in the EU), but as a measure of fascism he pales in comparison to, for example, the guy who got elected in Austria (can't remember his name, can't be assed to look it up).

2) The first round results in France, far from being a shock demonstration of the 'rising tide of naziism' in europe, or all the other ridiculous headlines that the media attributed to it (what was particularly disappointing was the broadsheets went the same way), were nothing of the sort. All they demonstrated was the instability of the French modified two-party system, and the general apathy that affects the voting populace in Western countries these days (did we learn nothing from America?) Le Pen clears 17% or so EVERY SINGLE TIME there is an election in France. It's nothing new. This "massive surge" in votes amounts to a shift of about 1.5%. Now, compare that to the shift from the tories to labour between Major and Blair's administrations, and you'll see it's really not a big deal. Added to which, last time round only 20% of people who actually voted for Le Pen wanted to see him as President - the rest voted for him as a protest against the other options. It's a kind of "none of the above" vote really - it's seen as a safe way for many people to air their frustrations at both the left and right, as he's a safe bet not to get in.

I await the day when bodhi posts something even partially influenced by fact, evidence, or in fact anything vaguely reasonable.

STu-

you seem to forget the fact that the Front National of Le Pen has split in 2 (son in law wanted the power) If looked in total of the 2 they had more votes then Chirac. Also if you look in the local area's you will see that former communist area's went to Le Pen (northern region that borders Belgium and the Elzas).

This said I also dont believe in a rise of extreem rightwing movements, the reason why they are getting more influence is because apathy and people are getting tired of the mainstream parties.

Le Pen is mainly a populist that borders on facism and racism.

I await the day when the point of a post like the one I made doesn't disappear straight over your head. I wasn't making a political statement, as for me, politics is only slightly less boring than Counterstrike.

Hitler was probably a reasonable bloke until he got to power. Then look what happened. Do you honestly fucking think that Le Pen and his fellow shit heads will stick to what they say? Fucking read some history and learn a few things.

So do I, but I actually agree with him (4th time now is it Bodhi?). France will get what they deserve, they vote in Hilter MK II then its their own fucking stupid fault. My only worry is that he drags the rest of us down with him. The idea of a fucking Nazi led country being 25 miles from the English coast is not reassuring.

My point is that nobody had an idea of what he was about until AFTER he got to power. Typical politician, they say one thing and then change their minds once their in office.

Hmm

I aint fussed if Le Pen gets in....

and as for the BNP, I think the three main parties in the UK need to spread out a bit more and cover the issues people want.

I agree that nobody is addressing the immigration problem apart from the BNP, but actually voting for these wankers is something else again.
