Blueprints...

I understand the general concept of blueprints etc.....but I was just having a muck around looking at the market in my system etc and found the following ship information...

To buy an Osprey ship it would cost me 5,750,000 ISK
To buy an Osprey Blueprint Copy 1 would cost me 28,225,000 ISK

Now with the blueprint I am guessing I would also need components or minerals or something as well as factory hire in order to turn the blueprint into an actual ship.

So what is the point if it would cost anything up to 6 times the price to just go and buy the ship?

The idea is that you buy the blue print then mass produce the ships and sell them on to eventually start making profit. Can't see much point in buying them just for yourself unless you can mine minerals 24/7.

Course it helps if you have a corporation to do the mining for you :)

Im not sure but i wud think if you are mass producing the ships it will be cheaper in the long run. Also don't forget once you have your ship you can sell your Blueprint.

Dunno tho.

Ahhhh I think I see now, I probably got the wrong end of the stick. I thought a copy blueprint only lasted for one manufacture, ie blueprint+minerals+factory=ship

But if I understand correctly, once you have made a ship you still have the factory and blueprint so can add more minerals and make more ships.

Obviously depending on your skills, the time to make the ship and the ability of the ship all change, and I am also assuming that if you had an original blueprint then on the second manufacture the ship will be better than the original, as you can (according to the manual) research it twice :D

If I'm being too simplistic or have got the wrong end of the stick, feel free to slap me with a trout and correct my n00bian understanding :D

PS: cask, did you get out of that intact? Was it even you battle or was you just passing ;)

That's my corps mining operation :) Only thing getting killed is the roids... oh and the guy in his bestower trying to steal our cargo capsules :/

You can also copy blueprints and sell them.

I tend to buy a blueprint, then spend some time researching it to improve mineral efficiency and to lower production time. If its less than 5 minutes a production run, I don't bother with the production efficiency though.

I was hoping you could improve the quality of the stuff you produce by researching, but I don't think this is possible. If anyone knows different I'd love to hear :)

Yeah thats what I was hoping for too. It would be nice to be able to produce weapons with better attributes than the standard ones and stick your own monicker on them, so everyone knew where they come from.

You can imagine people travelling far and wide just to buy their components or missiles from you :)

If you have an original BP you can research it and copy it, they are very expensive and only make 3 copies (which you can sell on)

the copies cannot be researched and more copies cannot be made from them.

with each BP you can research it twice or upgrade it twice but cant mix and match it.

So... why have I managed to work on a blueprint to mineral efficiency 10 then?

mineral efficiency is a skill so i dunno what you mean. but you can only research an origional BP twice or copy it twice, anymore and its a bug.

Hmm, I'd have to go back and check but I know I have a blueprint with production efficency 1, mineral 6 and another blueprint with mineral efficiency 10. It shows them to the right hand side when I'm choosing what to install as current production run.

If its a bug I have no problem flagging it for devs to look at, but I didn't play in beta and just thought this was what the game did?

Something that occurs to me is that its a display bug then and that it does max at 3 for each but continues to let you think you've done a cracking good job :D
