Blockbuster says customers are opting for Blu-Ray
Film rental firm Blockbuster is to rent high-definition DVDs only in the Blu-ray format at 1,450 US stores.

I know its only one chain, but if its true that initial customer feedback supports Blu-Ray over HD-DVD then, I'm happy :)

I have the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 and I'll be getting a PS3 once the first price drops come in. So, whichever way it goes, I'll be happy.

I do like the in-movie experiences that HD-DVDs have. Do the Blue-Rays have them?

Blu-Ray movies support J+ which is java based apps.

These are only just coming to market. I have both formats but have been buying more blu-ray. Infact I have stopped buying HD-DVD.

It'll be interesting which one wins, I'm against anything Sony atm as they seem to be totally fucking themselves over but I do like the Blu-ray tech :)

C'mon chaps - it's nothing like VHS vs Betamax and entirely like DVD+R vs DVD-R. Which one of those won? Neither, pretty much every burner is dual/triple format now. I can't see any reason why it won't be the same with blu-ray and HD DVD.

Im not sure, granted it wont be as big as betamax-vhs, but the cost to make a dual HD-DVD/BluRay player way exceeds those for a DVD+/DVD- player, from what I understand its different lenses and shit.

I'd put my money on Universal switching to Blu-Ray by the end of 2008 :) apparently there the only studio who do release anything on Blu-Ray

For now they need different lenses. Ok so maybe they'll always need different lenses. I remember when a DVD-r burner cost 500 quid. You can now get one for 10-20 quid. I just can't imagine a scenario where one would simply cease to be rather than get on board with a dual format system that's affordable.

Well Samsung already do a "Super Blu" dual format player, allthough it apparently has issues with HD DVD bonus stuff but as it's 1st generation who cares?

And then ofcourse you have discs that are blu ray on one side and HD DVD on the other side.

I think that this "format war" will have no clear winner.

And last but not least, does anyone still actually rent stuff from Blockbusters?

I think I read Panasonic was about to release a dual format player in the US, I think it was about £1000 - obviously that price will drop :touch:

/edit or was it samsung :)

tbh, I'd be quite interested in bluray or whatever through the post...it might be time to invest in a HD/BR player

I have the 360 add on and a ps3, I buy whichever is cheaper if all the extras are the same if it's released on both formats. When I do buy a proper player I will get a hybrid one. There are far more titles on blu-ray than hd-dvd though, and the tend to be cheaper.

Whatever Blockbuster do means nothing. They will swap and change whenever it suits them. You just know they have been paid by Sony to support that format.

Blockbuster are scum whore pig fucks and no mistake.

Blockbusters in the US are still supplying HD DVD's via their website and the 250 stores that stocked them anyway.
