Bloody Hardbacks

No I'm not talking about Gamah's schlong.

Why is it new books always come in out with irritating hardback covers. I understand they can sell them for more but why not just please everyone and release them as paperbacks but the same price as hardbacks or at least give the option.. Apologies to any freaks who actually prefer hardbacks; I assume for the utility in insect disposal.

It's annoying as its the only format where such stupidity reigns and if the book does really well you have to wait another year or two. So they can milk hardback sales of the initial buzz release, then again with a second release into paperback. A great way to premote reading.. Get bored waiting and you will be able to buy the dvd of the book which was made afterwards before you can get a proper paperback copy.

Save le trees and my paitence.

Its because the books may not be succesful thus owning a hard back is asthetically nicer than a paperback.

If you want a book that is only out in hardback, check amazon.COM being USA, they get things way before us. Or check your airport as they have books before the normal shops.

I found this out from waterstones, seems the americans are 6 months ahead

meh i prefer some books as hardbacks, look nicer and have a more solid feel to them. i tend to curl paperbacks way too much but yeh i always thought they should release both hardback adn paperback at the same time or like maybe 1-2 days early just so people have the option.

the price of hardbacks is anoying tho.

not really, its just like films... first they release in cinemas and then onto p2p file sharing places, then onto DVDs, then sky, then terrestrial tv

its designed to make the publishers & authors the most money possible.

unfortuantely however i'm also a paperback fan and wish they wouldn't do this.

you can still read the books again and it doesnt stretch your fingers if you wanna read holding the book in one hand (hope ppl get what i mean).

I dont like the way hardbacks dig into your chest when you lie and read. A paperback will never do that

i worked in a bookshop for 2 years and this was a constant complaint. usually it's a 6month wait at least for the paperback version. idiotic imo. you can always try get hold of the trade paperbacks (the types sold in airports) which are slightly smaller than hardbacks, with soft covers. not a huge improvement but cheaper and better and no 6 month wait.

I have to agree...with Ingafgrinn though.

Hardbacks last the teeth of time alot better and if(gods forbid) i want to buy a book, i want it to last more then one dumptrip

Though nothing wrong in pleasing the masses and putting out(girls take heed) both versions.
