Righto, seems someone has used my card on amazon. Amazon being amazon have billed me £200 before they decided it was probably a dodgy account seeing as that card was already used on my account.

Anyways, apart from amazon having crap security, I am worried I have some dodgy software on my pc. I have'nt actually enetered my card details on this pc for weeks, but it was wierd that I placed an order on amazon and then the same day had my card defrauded. I run zonealarm + avg, I use apybot every now and then. Am I being paranoid or is there something I am missing here?

Any suggestions for software that will help ease my mind so I dont go the fdisk route?

You're more likely to be being ripped off from a physical transaction or a card cloner in a machine or in a shop/restaurant (or my favourite plan, a decent telephoto to a pub i know in london which has all the cards on tab up on a wall numbers out :) )

get a copy of hijack this, it's a tip top bit of software for finding malicious buggers

Yeah, only thing is I haven't used my card for nearly 3 weeks, I've been on holiday and my cards been locked up. THe only place it's been used is a train station ticket machine and at work (chip and pin where I kept the card). I honestly cannot remember handing my card over anywhere. Just wierd that I ordered off amazon and the same day my card was used on amazon by someone else :/

If you've got a standard password for stuff, change it fella. That's what I did after I once had a dodgy transo and i've been fine since.

It sounds like Amazon's end? Is it possible you ordered something and someone else did at the same time and this persons transactions occured accidently on your card? I'm not an expert on the software used, but a blip by the charging software may of caused it?

Amazon won't admit it of course :).

They rekon it was a new account that was created that was using my card. Obviously they have not answered any of my questions about what security checks they made before charging me £200.

My pc is clean, checked it with every bit of software I can find.

My parents got de-frauded by 2000 quid by some church in california. Obviously they have no idea whats going on with that, so they're speaking to the bank/insurance companies.

Such wankers out there :(

My mum has lung disease, and money is tight atm paying for it, then some wanker comes along wanting to take 2 grand to spend on porn or something. Fantastic.

If you are worried about fraud it might be worth checking out: http://www.equifax.co.uk/. for £12 they give you a complete credit break down and you can see what loans e.t.c you have to your name. Also an option for an auto text should your details change.

In this day and age it's to easy to swip someones details. Attachments on bank ATMs. Key loggers / trojans (although us bw/freddy vets should be ok from these), and numerous other ways. After all how many places hold your card details where it could take just one employee to have a sneak peak and forward your bank details onto someone? :(.
